Canada Opens The Doors For International Students!

Canada has published details of a new international educational strategy. The federal government is opening wide doors for international students! The main goal of the new five-year strategy worth $ 148 million is to increase the diversity of countries of origin of Foreign Students.

Canada will focus on countries with a growing middle class, where the prospect of an education in English or French will be attractive. Canadian authorities will focus on students from Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Morocco, Ukraine, Turkey, and France.

Another key goal of the strategy is to diversify places to study for foreign students by attracting foreign students to rural and less populated areas, where there are fewer immigrants. As of December 31, 2018, there were over 570,000 holders of study permits in the country.

For the first time, a new strategy became known back in March. This year’s budgeted strategy is being implemented in coordination with the provinces and territories, as well as colleges, polytechnic and university schools and other key partners.

Canada took 7th place as favorite choice of foreign students

Meanwhile, the attractiveness of education in Canada is growing! According to a study conducted by the DAAD and the DZHW, more than 5 million students went to various universities around the world to graduate last year. At the moment, the United States is the world leader, being the favorite place of choice for most international students. Almost 19% of students wishing to go abroad chose US universities.

The second place in attractiveness for foreign students was Great Britain, which was chosen by 8.5% of students. Canada has been rated as the 7th most attractive country for higher education. Canada was selected by 3.7% of international students from around the world.

From which countries do students go to study in Canada?

At the end of 2018, there were 572,415 international students in Canada. The number of foreign applicants at universities and colleges in Canada increased by 15% between 2017 and 2018. Students from India and China accounted for 315610, or 55% of the total number of holders of study permits in Canada. Moreover, India was ahead of China with 172625 students against 142985 Chinese students.

Despite tensions between Canada and China and fewer Chinese visitors to Canada, the number of students from China in Canada continues to grow. In particular, between January and May 2019, approximately 30,000 student permits were issued to Chinese students, compared with 26,000 and 18,000 student permits issued during the same period in 2018 and 2017. The number of study permits issued to Chinese students increased by 15%.

Thus, the diversification of countries of origin of students is also designed to balance the number of students from India and China and students from other countries of the world.
