I'm a SWE but rarely code. What should I do?

I have 2 years of experience here working on a legacy system, and it's my first job out of college. I've implemented some simple features but I mostly fix bugs, which requires stepping through tons of Code with a debugger and modifying maybe a few lines of code to fix the issue.

I don't feel like I'm growing my skills as an engineer, and I think finding a new job with more hands on coding is what I need to boost my career progression. However, my lack of real coding experience makes me extremely afraid of moving to another company because I fear that I'll get slaughtered there.

I read a lot of books on software development and try to work on some personal projects but feel that it's not enough. My manager said that if I continue making progress with bug fixing, I'll be able to work on more feature development since it seems like the mid/senior level engineers focus on that while juniors (0-2 years exp) get bugs.

Not sure what to do. Do I stay and hope I'll get more coding experience in the future? Do I keep doing personal projects and grinding leetcode to get a new job? But what if I do get that new job and my new coworkers realize I don't know shit?
