Italian ongoing trends: food and pet still growing

USA is a giant  agri-food importer with their 130billion Euros in 2016, which Italy represents 3.4%; in 2017 there was a growth of 6% for the Belpaese. Wine, cheese, olive oil and pasta represents the 65% of the Italian total.

According to the Nomisma-Crif data, the highest concentration of imports is in the East Coast with the addition of California and Texas, the Midwest States suffer the highest price; just to enter these States in May 2017 the ICE Italian Trade Agency has signed an agreement with the giant Walmart for the distribution of 3600 products and the use of the Extraordinary Italian Taste logo.

For the American citizens interviewed by Nomisma the Italian products are in first place for reputation and, joining this information with the estimates growth of more than 14% of the average per capita income in the next five years, we can well guess the enormous opportunity of further development of Italian agribusiness in the USA.

This has already been understood by Colavita who has its market in the USA since 1978 and is constantly strengthening his presence.

Colavita is a south Italy historic brand, based in Molise Region, that exports to 70 countries. They care so much about innovation that they are four of the top ten oils sold on Amazon and 10% of turnover comes from online sales.
In 2017 Amazon sales have doubled and it is estimated that in 2018 they will triple.

Colavita has created an online platform for the sale in the USA of Italian products including San Benedetto, Rio Mare, Perugina, Cirio, Scotti and Motta and which confirms itself as a privileged channel to reach such an important market.

In May 2001 they inaugurated the “Colavita Center for Italian food and wine”, an Italian cooking school located within the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY.

Amorim Cork Italia scores its best on 2017 closing with a + 12,9% compared to the previous year: more than 561billion corks sold, 57.8billion Euros of turnover and the proof to be the best worldwide branch for Amorim Cork.

NDtech was the key to the Amorim Cork Italia success. The new cork is selected piece by piece with an exclusive individual gas chromatography system; great demand also for the sparkling wine cork, mainly intended for Prosecco.

The company based in Conegliano (Treviso) employs 42 people and boasts a commercial force of 35 agents. Research and Development department pursues excellence with a marked sensitivity for the protection of the environment and for the protection of cork forests.

The Eticork initiative introduces a recognition for wineries that take on virtuous behaviour in everyday life, a reward that is above all a form of gratitude towards those who are supportive in everyday life, with the hope that in the future virtuous behaviour will become a noble habit.

In Italy a new trend is going to break down the market, the attention on pet’s food and nutrition is the new trend to follow.

We had a clue of this trend since 2007 when Mars – with Procter & Gamble, Nestlé and Colgate-Palmolive was holding the 80% of  Pet and Food Global market- acquired Banfield Pet Hospital.

Health and Care are strictly related with the nutrition of our pets.

This will be the main subject of the Economic Forum organized by ESG89 on May the 17th in the beautiful Italian city of Montefalco, well known as the home of Sagrantino Wine.
