MCALLEN, TEXAS – Rose Benavidez – Chair, Board of Trustees: The South Texas College Board of Trustees is pleased to provide the students, faculty, staff, and community with the most recent updates regarding the ongoing Presidential Search process.

First and foremost, a tremendous thank you and whole-hearted appreciation for the valuable feedback that you, the stakeholders, have provided during this process.  Approximately 175 of you attended our forums and nearly 200 of you submitted your thoughts on the desired qualifications of the next President of South Texas College.  Those comments and the themes they produced were used not only to formulate the Presidential Profile, but also provided guidance during the entire process.  Your input has been critical, and we are guided by it as we continue through the search.

Additionally, the 19-member Search Committee which consisted of students, faculty, staff, and trusted community leaders represented our students, employees, and partners exceptionally well in helping select and interview the impressive candidates for this position.  The committee recommended outstanding semi-finalists for the Board’s further consideration.

On May 11, 2021, the Board held interviews with the semi-finalists proposed by the Search Committee.  In preparation for these interviews, the Board once again reviewed the Presidential Profile, which incorporates the community’s feedback in the desired characteristics of the next President of South Texas College.  The Board found each of the semi-finalists highly qualified and attributed the caliber of the candidates to the great work of the community and the search committee.

The next step of this process will be for the Board to conduct further interviews with the two finalist candidates, with the anticipation of naming a sole finalist by the May 25, 2021 Regular Board Meeting.

Once the sole finalist is announced, the Board will  provide opportunities for all stakeholders to meet the next President of South Texas College. Again, thank you so much for all of the input, ideas, and support you have given to this process.
