Pharr, TX  The Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley will hold its monthly evening ‘Meals under Moonlight’ Drive-Thru Emergency Pantry (DTEP) on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 from 5:00pm – 8:00pm, or until capacity is reached, at the Food Bank Rgv. This evening distribution will enable the Food Bank RGV to distribute food to clients who are normally unable to attend during the Wednesday morning scheduled DTEP hours due to work or school schedules.

This distribution is made possible through the generous support of the Junior League of McAllen, who have a longstanding history of community service and providing support to Food Bank RGV events.

The ‘Meals Under Moonlight’ DTEP will follow the Food Bank RGV’s mobile drive-thru model with little or no contact. Staff and volunteers will assist with the distribution of food. Produce and shelf-stable bags of food will be placed into the vehicle trunks of attendees. Up to 700 families will be served through this on-site evening distribution taking place at the Food Bank RGV located at 724 N. Cage Blvd. in Pharr, TX.

The Food Bank RGV has reformed its distribution schedule to reach more clients and better serve the community. The first Wednesday of the month is dedicated to serving senior citizens ages 60 and older from 7am to 10 am, or until capacity is reached.  The second and fourth Wednesday of the month will serve the general public from 7am to 10am, or until capacity is reached. The ‘Meals under Moonlight’ distribution will take place every third Wednesday of the Month from 5pm – 8pm to serve working families and individuals clients who are unable to attend during the general public distribution schedule. There will not be a morning distribution on the third Wednesdays of the month when the ‘Meals under Moonlight’ distribution takes place.

For all distributions taking place at the Food Bank RGV or at mobile pop-ups across the RGV;  there will be a limit of 2 families (2 people) per car to receive assistance. ID and proof of address are requested. All vehicle occupants must wear face coverings and car trunks must be completely empty. Distributions will be first come, first served and while supplies last.

For more information on sponsoring an evening distribution, please contact Philip Farias at 956-904-4513 for more information.
