The first Saturn store opened in 1961 in Cologne, Germany whereas the first MediaMarkt opened in 1979 in Munich. In 1990, MediaMarkt acquired Saturn group. It is now located in 15 countries across Europe under the various brands. The Company, especially MediaMarkt, is known for its advertising. MediaMarkt is the largest retailer of consumer electronics in Europe and second largest in world. In the financial year 2016/17, MediaMarktSaturn generated sales worth 22 billion euros.
