Why Are Men Intimidated By Strong, Successful Women?

Reasons why successful women threaten men

Is it the biological factor that makes it difficult for successful Women to gain the same status in society as men or the cultural perception? I would definitely say both. The more successful a woman becomes, the more pressure she has to endure to prove herself in male dominant societies and environments.

This is true for many women in the world. Does success have a price? Yes, especially for women because their conditions are different compared to the ones men have to go through to attain success. Will this change? Can women and men just be regarded as humans with the same needs in life? Or are certain cultural perceptions and norms the measuring stick which dictate the way women should behave and operate in society?

As a woman, I believe the more knowledge and progress I attain in life, the more of a threat I am for men. This means women will further compete for jobs and positions typically run by men. Consequently, men will have to get used to following women and taking direction from them. Is that such a bad thing? This will be a very difficult transition for sexist men who discriminate against women and only see them as inferior to them in society, and especially in the corporate world.

To attain the same respect a man automatically receives in society is difficult for women in the workplace. This is true because men do not need to earn respect since society sees them as entitled to it. However, women strive to earn respect and have to work hard for it, particularly in the competitive professional environment.

Furthermore, the challenges women go through in the workplace are numerous. Some of these issues are:

  1. Difficulty in attainting higher ranks and better paying positions.
  2. Receiving equal pay for the same job a man performs.
  3. Being assigned more integral and important tasks at work.
  4. Being diminished in important conversations and rarely granted an equal voice.
  5. Unequally criticized and evaluated by the institutions.
  6. Treated unprofessionally with cultural influences and biases.
  7. Not granted the right to act comfortably as a woman in terms of dress codes.
  8. Feeling insecure and threatened by inappropriate male harassments or advances.
  9. Having male bosses hinder their success by not giving them equal rights to progress.
  10. Failing to regard them as hard working humans with no pre-judgments.
