An Apartment is defined as a self-contained building that houses several individual residential units. This is a very broad term definition which offers enough scope for several interpretations. This has led to the development of different types of apartment complexes that house different types of “residential units”, so to speak. Studio apartments are mostly preferred by people looking for budget accommodation. They are extremely popular among bachelors or new entrants to the city who don’t mind compromising on the space in lieu of affordability. These cozy apartments often comprise of a living area, a kitchen and a bedroom. They can be found in all types of apartment complexes.
Villas are among the most luxurious apartment types. Luxury villas in Bangalore are not as rare as they used to be. Growing economic stability and the need for luxury living experience has increased the popularity of these affluent living spaces. Villas are individual spaces with almost all facilities of an independent house- including a garden, lawns, open spaces and sometimes’ even a swimming pool.
Apartment buildings with over 5 floors are categorized as multi floors or multi-storey apartments. They often house identical housing units in each Floor that are similar in floor plan and area. They generally have a large parking space and lifts to benefit the large number of families that live in the building.
Builder floor apartments generally comprise of 4 floors or less, and are constructed by individual builders. The number of flats and the floor plan is generally designed and implemented by the builder and are often found in upcoming residential areas of the city.
Row houses are technically not apartments. However, they comprise of a row of houses enclosed with in a gated space. Each of these houses have similar floor plans and are often share the same walls.
Gated Communities are spread over a large area and often comprise of multi-storey apartments, villas, and row houses. These are often enclosed within a private space, with fences or walls running along the perimeter of the community. These spaces are often self-contained, with facilities like supermarkets, gyms, playground, restaurants etc. located within the gated space.
