3 Things to Focus with Gamification Interaction Design

Gamification is the ‘in thing’ when it comes to increasing engagement and boosting activity for your business. The heart of this lies in Gamification interaction design. The better your design more are the chances of meeting your intended goals. However gamification is not an answer to poor product development or fragile corporate culture. Here we take a look at three things you must focus on with your gamification interaction design.

#1 It’s Not A Game!

Yes, the word gamification is derived from game but your intention isn’t to build a game. The gamification interaction design project should rather focus on using some elements of gaming and using the same to increase engagement with your end users. Unlike traditional marketing techniques that are high on sales pitch with gamification your intention is to promote your business in a fun filled way. So you should focus or using gamification in a subtle manner that keeps the users engaged and lets you meet your end goals. That being said the types of game design principles and game mechanics that make the best video games addictive and engaging should be used to make gamification programs successful.

#2 Don’t Take Users for A Ride

At no point of time should you take your users for a ride by means of trying to trick them into activities that they don’t expect to get involved in the first place. Since gamification is often used as a means to keep your employees engaged and improve their productivity this applies more to gamification models that are used in-house in enterprises. Let them become a part of the entire exercise voluntarily and never force them to engage in any activities as it kills the entire idea behind the process.

#3 There is No Perfect Gamification Activity

You get into gamification with the idea of increasing engagement with your users and motivating your employees. But there is no guarantee that your strategies would yield results immediately. While you may work on the most tried and tested gamification interaction design ideas but yet you may not see the results coming through. The idea is not to copy any design that has yielded results but to study your target audience, their behavior and habits and work on a design that is aligned to these factors.
