Teen Boys Attempt to Murder Teenage Girl

Teen Boys Attempt to Murder Teenage Girl

Recently, two 16-year-old boys were charged with attempted murder and other counts after allegedly shooting a 14-year-old girl in the head, leaving her for dead in an empty canal in Smithfield, Utah. Documents state that the alleged shooting was a plot to murder the girl. The boys have been charged with first-degree felony attempted aggravated murder and aggravated robbery, as well as four counts each of second-degree felony obstructing justice.

The girl was reported missing earlier this month, and 24 hours later was found in canal by people who knew her and were looking for her. She had been shot in the head. Reports state she is in critical condition and in a medically induced coma at a Salt Lake City hospital.
The boys lured her to the spot telling her they would sell her a knife. The two boys were armed with knives, and one with a .22-caliber revolver as a backup weapon to murder the 14-year-old. She was shot in the back of the head. The two male teens planned on stealing from her after they had killed her. After the shooting, they allegedly took her book bag, cell phone and iPod, along with some cash in her purse.

The teen who pulled the trigger said he hid the revolver under his brother’s mattress. Police retrieved the gun from the hiding place later on. The other teen took the casing from the crime scene as a souvenir. Police later found it at his house. The second teen gave conflicting stories to officers, saying at first he never had contact with his friend, but messages back and forth proved otherwise. He also said he watched his friend shoot a girl he did not recognize. He said he tried to run away, but the first teen caught up to him.

For all intents and purposes, the two young men allegedly committed a heinous crime and will need to be represented by a juvenile criminal defense attorney in Utah. There will be many factors to consider in a case like this, including: the age of the boys, the age of victim, whether or not the act was intentional and whether or not both were willing participants. The situation would drastically change if the victim dies.
