The Managing Director/Chief Executive officer, Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Damilola Ogunbiyi, carried out an inspection tour of the first phase of 500 electrified shops under the Federal Government’s Energizing Economies Initiatives at Sabon-Gari Market, Kano State on 7th Feb, 2018.
The REA had earlier conducted a baseline survey of the energy needs of four major markets in Nigeria (of which Sabon-Gari was one), indicating that with 36.27 megawatts (MW) of stable electricity provided to them, economic productivity in the markets could expand and bring more prosperity to about 50,900 shop owners there.
The total energy demand for Sabon Gari Market in particular, was put at 1.36MW. On the appropriate energy generation source for the market, the baseline survey suggested that for Sabon Gari market, what was required was a 1MW decentralized solar solution using high capacity solar home systems.
