Fashola Reiterates Need For Power Consumers Enumeration

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola has reiterated the need for Consumers data gathering, Spark reports.

He emphasized that the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) needs to embark on the enumeration of electricity consumers, stating categorically that lack of proper and adequate knowledge of who is consuming what or how many persons are utilizing the power has significantly led to the difficulty in the detection of infractions leading to some customers bearing the burden of paying for stolen Energy owing to lack of meters for billing consumption.

Fashola speaking during the Civil Societies Organizations (CSOs) workshop on the Power Sector Reform Programme in Abuja, also blamed the commercial losses of the Distribution Companies (DisCos) on energy theft. The minister however urged for social justice between the consumers and the service providers, calling on whistleblowers to assist the NESI with intelligence of energy theft that could lead to the arrest of the thieves.
