The Federal Government has directed the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and Nigeria Electricity Management Service Agency to investigate the electricity accident that led to the deaths of about 30 football fans at a viewing centre in Calabar, The Punch reports.
The Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing, in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, said both NERC and NEMSA would work with the power distribution company in the area to unravel the cause of the incident.
It said, “NERC and NEMSA have been directed to thoroughly investigate the incident and its causes and to take regulatory action as appropriate.”
“Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company has already commenced a comprehensive investigation in order to implement procedures and necessary actions to forestall future occurrences,” it added.
