Rajasthan political crisis: Rahul Gandhi’s aide says matter to be resolved in a day or two

In the midst of the continuing political upheaval in Rajasthan over the choice of Ashok Gehlot’s successor, Congress leader KC Venugopal claimed on Wednesday that there is no drama in the state and that the decision on who would be the new chief minister will be made in a day or two.

Venugopal told ANI, “There is no drama in Rajasthan. Everything will be clear in a day or two. The media may see this as a drama but at least you are discussing the INC president Election. You cannot discuss the presidential election of any other party in this country.” The Congress leader said that the party is carrying forward the election for the presidential poll in a “democratic manner”.

“Congress is doing it in a very democratic manner, it will end in two days smoothly,” he said.

The statements follow the uncertainty in Rajasthan and the national capital caused by the political drama that has been developing since Gehlot confirmed his candidacy for the Congress presidential election on October 17.

It was already known that Gehlot will file his nomination, which would begin on October 24 and run through the end of the month. However, the head of the Congress Central Election Authority, Madhusudan Mistry, stated on Tuesday that there has been no update on the nomination of the Rajasthan Chief Minister.

“I don’t have any update. Nobody has contacted me,” he told ANI.

Gehlot is in the national capital today and is likely to meet Sonia Gandhi.
