The BJP leaders have once again seized upon the infighting surrounding the grand old party’s much-publicised public outreach programme, “Bharat Jodo Yatra,” a foot march of Congress being led by party leader Rahul Gandhi.
In an apparent jab at the Congress’s Kanyakumari to Kashmir Yatra, which the party has declared is intended to bring the country together, Union minister Bhupender Yadav uploaded a photo of Rahul Gandhi with Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot last night and added the caption, “please unify them first.”
The BJP has criticised the Congress for holding the Bharat Jodo Yatra and has insisted that the party should first concentrate on quelling the internal uprising.
Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, a BJP politician and Lok Sabha representative from Jodhpur, also disparaged the Congress. He stated in a tweet: “The fencing government… ready to be closed once more!”
In a revolt that broke out just before a critical Congress Legislature Party meeting, a number of Ashok Gehlot-aligned Congress MLAs submitted their resignations last night over a potential effort to name Sachin Pilot as the next chief minister. The meeting was scheduled in the midst of speculation over Gehlot’s potential successor, who will be up for election on October 17 with Shashi Tharoor and other party officials. It has been reported that more than 90 MLAs have tendered their resignations. The Speaker’s office is yet to comment on the resignation letters.
According to sources, Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Ajay Maken attempted late at night to encourage Gehlot supporters to see them one-on-one rather than as part of the scheduled MLAs’ gathering.
Gehlot first gave the impression that he was reluctant to resign as CM. Later, it was believed that he preferred someone other than Pilot, who had defied his authority, to become CM, specifically Assembly Speaker C P Joshi.
2020 saw Pilot setting up camp in Haryana to voice his opposition to Gehlot’s administration. After receiving guarantees from the leadership, he subsequently returned to the state.
