Grenade Attack: One police personnel killed by terrorists in J&K’s Kulgam

Police said on Sunday that a Police officer was murdered when militants threw a grenade on Saturday in the Qaimoh neighbourhood in the Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Tahir Khan, a Poonch native, has been identified as the dead. In a tweet, the Kashmir Zone Police stated, “In Qaimoh Kulgam, a grenade incident was reported last night. One police officer, Tahir Khan R/O Mendhar, Poonch, was hurt in this terror attack. He was moved to the GMC hospital in Anantnag for treatment, where he passed away and became a martyr.”

A member of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was hurt earlier on Saturday when militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Eidgah neighbourhood of Srinagar threw a grenade at security forces.

Police in Srinagar tweeted, “Terrorist(s) threw one grenade in the direction of security personnel on Ali Jan Road in Eidgah. One CRPF member suffered minor splinter injuries as a result of this.”

Days before to the grenade assaults, the Indian Army successfully thwarted a suicide attempt on an Indian Army installation in this area that claimed the lives of three Army personnel and two Terrorists.

Three members of the Indian Army lost their lives as a result of wounds they sustained while putting down two terrorists who were planning a suicide bombing in Rajouri, Jammu & Kashmir.

During the operation on Thursday morning, Subedar Rajendra Prasad, Rifleman Manoj Kumar, and Rifleman Lakshmanan D gave the ultimate sacrifice for their nation.

Manoj Sinha, lieutenant governor of Jammu and Kashmir, denounced the act when it occurred and pledged to deal with terrorists and their sympathisers in a suitable manner.

“We vehemently condemn the abhorrent terrorist act in Rajouri and pay respect to the valiant troops who gave their all. Sincere sympathies to the families of the courageous men and women who lost their lives in the attack. We will appropriately respond to the malicious intentions of terrorists and those who support them “tweeted Sinha.

It appears that the Rashtriya Rifles unit’s Pargal company operational base was targeted by a suicide bomber in an effort to replicate the Uri incident, in which terrorists penetrated an Army camp and murdered 19 troops.

Days before the nation celebrated its 75th Independence Day, an effort was made to sneak into the Army camp.

It is noteworthy that the incident occurs the day after security personnel in Budgam neutralised three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants. Rahul Bhat and Amreen Bhat, two civilians, were slain along with one of the terrorists who was killed in the attack.
