MLC Chandrashekhar Bawankule appointed as the BJP’s Maharashtra unit president

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has elected Mlc Chandrashekhar Bawankule as state unit president and MLA Ashish Shelar as Mumbai city unit president.

Former Energy Minister Bawankule. He was refused a ticket to run in the 2019 assembly elections. As the MLC, he now represents the state legislative council.

Similarly, Shelar, a Maratha by caste, took over as Mumbai unit president from Mangal Prabhat Lodha. Lodha was also appointed to the freshly sworn-in cabinet of Maharashtra’s BJP-Shiv Sena coalition.

The selection of Bawankule shows the BJP’s efforts to consolidate backward community support in the state as it prepares for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
