My Books for Less Warehouse Sale 2016 Experience + Book Haul

Probably by now you must have already heard about the Books for Less Warehouse Sale that runs until the end of this month. I happen to finally visit the warehouse this morning and I must say, in my three years of going to the said sale, this year is the best so far.

You must be thinking, “Hey Mark, you just posted a a book haul a couple of days ago. So you bought new books AGAIN?” Well, yes, I again bought new books. Well, after a long and hard week at work, I finally gave in decided to treat myself a bit. And what other better way to treat a bookworm than buying books. And for P20 each book, who would pass that up? :) My friends and I are actually planning to go there by the third weekend of this month, but I said to myself, going back will never a problem. And so after watching a little bit of the opening ceremony of the 2016 Rio Olympics (go Pilipinas!) and despite having only 4 hours of sleep, I decided to go and visit the warehouse.

Considering that it’s the first weekend after they opened, I was actually quite surprised that there were only a few people searching the stacks when I arrived. I was there at around 10 AM and there were only like 20 people there. Before I reached the place, I was actually already preparing myself because based on my previous experiences at the event, it’s a little chaotic. The reason that I am thinking why there were only a few who went is because of the weather (it actually did rain) and also probably people already went there during the weekdays.

The Books for Less Warehouse Sale will run from August 1-31, 2016 (Except Aug 8, 15, and 22), from 9AM-6PM at #643 Mercedes Avenue, Brgy. San Miguel, Pasig City (in front of La Consolacion College). There’s a tarpaulin in front of their warehouse so it will be hard to miss the place.

Most of the books available includes literary fiction novels, the classics, non-fiction books like cook books, biographies and reference books. There are also a lot of middle grade books and children’s books. For those who miss their childhood and misses The Baby Sitters Club series, Lizzie McGuire series, Thoroughbred series, The Box Car Children series, The Wayside School is Falling Down series by Louis Sachar and Beverly Cleary books among others, this is the best place to go to score the above mentioned titles. For YA books, I am not just sure as I’ve seen only a few. Maybe because they were bought already. I was advised that they replenish the books daily so it will help if you’ll be there early.

At around 12 PM, after searching every possible corner of the warehouse, I decided to finally stop and go home. I left the place with 12 books.

Here are the books that I got:

1. Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo
2. Travels with Charley by John Steinbeck
3. The Year of Meats by Ruth L. Ozeki
4. The Possibility of an Island by Michel Houellebecq
5. A Spot of Bother by Mark Haddon
6. Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen

Things to take note:
1. Wear comfortable clothing or bring extra clothing if you can. Take note that it’s a warehouse sale. Don’t expect that the area will be air conditioned (there are industrial fans thhough).
2. Bring water or any liquid to hydrate you if you’re planning to stay there long as the area can really get humid and hot.
3. Bring face mask or hand sanitizer especially if you’re allergic to dust.
2. Manage your expectations. Not all books are in mint condition or new releases and some books that you’re expecting may not be available.
4. Bring eco-bags (and help save the earth). If you don’t have any, you can buy one there for P15 for the small one and P30 pesos for the larger one.
5. Have patience. The books are not arranged per genre or per author. Have patience in looking around and you might find a book of your liking.
6. Smile. Be courteous. A little smile might help you win new bookish friends.
