July 2016 Wrap Up + August Announcements

Good bye July! Hello August! Time really flies so fast. As fast as flipping the pages of your favorite Book. We’re now in August! That was quick! Let’s discuss my posts for last month. Well, July was quite a good reading month for me, way way better than June of course. As you may have noticed I only read short books during the first couple of days because I was trying to recover from the my reading slump. That strategy eventually worked as I found my way out of that sinkhole. For book hauls, I am very happy with the books that I got. From physical books to ebooks, I am very satisfied.

Here’s a recap of what I posted here on my blog for the month of June.

Books Read and Reviewed:

My Thoughts About Saga, Volume 2 by Brian K. Vaughan (Writer) and Fiona Staples (Artist) (Book Review #110)
My Thoughts About Soft in the Head by Marie-Sabine Roger (Book Review #109)
My Thoughts About Falling into Place by Amy Zhang (Book Review #108)
My Thoughts About Fortunately, the Milk by Neil Gaiman (Book Review #107)
My Thoughts About The Strange Library by Haruki Murakami (Book Review #106)

Discussions and Features:

My Blame-The-Sale Book Haul (a.k.a. My Latest Book Haul)!
eBook Haul: 5 Recent eBooks Provided by Publishers

I have also read by Jennifer Niven’s Holding Up the Universe for the book’s Philippine’s blog tour being hosted by JM over at Book Freak Revelations. My post will be up before the book’s release on October 4. So watch out for that.

For the book that I am currently reading. (Drum rolls) It’s HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD!!! If you follow me on Twitter you may have noticed how I flooded my feed with lines and quotes from the book. It’s really gooood so far! The characters, the scenes, and the lines, while reading it, I realized how I really missed everything about the series. I cried, I laughed, and the feeeels! I know, I know, I should stop now. I am planning to finish the book today. After this post, it will probably be my Harry Potter and the Curse Child book review.

Now, for the announcements. This will include all the activities and events that I am planning to attend this August. August is an exciting month for me. There will be book sales left and right. There’s the Books for Less Warehouse sale which I am planning to visit this coming Saturday (it will run through the whole month of August) and the National Bookstore Warehouse Sale which will happen sometime around this month too. So expect some book hauls in the next coming days or weeks.

And since August is the Philippines’ National Language Month, I am also planning to read more books by Filipino authors. I am partaking in #BuwanNgMgaAkdangPinoy, or #MonthOfFilipinoAuthors or can also be #MonthOfFilipinoWritings. It is is basically like a readathon/promotion of books or works by Filipino authors. Those who want to join are encouraged to read books by Filipino authors this whole month of August. Readers can furthermore show their support by posting status updates in their social media accounts like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram about the books that they are currently reading and use the tag #BuwanNgMgaAkdangPinoy. Now on it’s second year, the activity has expanded and participants can now win prizes. Winners will be chosen for the best tweet, best photo, best book review and best video. To know more about it, click here. This activity is being spearheaded by Sir Edgar Calabia Samar, a recipient of both the Philippine National Book Award and the National Children’s Book Award for his Janus Silang series. I read and totally enjoyed his two Janus Silang Silang books last year. For my review of the Book 1, Janus Silang at anf Tiyanak ng Tabon, click here. For Book 2, Si Janus Silang at ang Labanang Manananggal-Mambabarang, click here. He’s the Philippine version of Harry Potter and Percy Jackson.😉

I am also planning to attend The Philippine Readers and Writers Festival 2016 organized by National Book Store and Raffles Makati. The event will be on August 26 to 28, 2016 t Raffles Makati. Guess who will come to the Philippines for a book signing event? Pulitzer award winning author Adam Johnson! Author of The Orphan Master’s Son, winner of the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction! It’s very rare that Pulitzer Prize award-winning authors visit the Philippines, so might as well grab this opportunity. And I’ve also been hearing nothing but good things about his works so I really can’t wait. Aside from Adam Johnson, they will also be bringing Anna Todd, author of the After series, and Paula McLain, author of The Paris Wife. To know more about the event, click here.

August will definitely be a busy month for me. But, I am really very excited! I do hope that you’ll also have a wonderful August.

What’s the best book that you read last month? What book are you currently reading? Any activities listed above that you’ll also be interested in joining? Let me know your thoughts.
