The Brittle Sea: 3rd Draft Progress Report #3

Dear reader, I am 35% of the way through the first edit. Next on the agenda after the Initial Edit is to do a read through and make sure everything fits into place and it reads well. But I will still have to go back to the beginning and do another sweep over the manuscript, before I can pass it onto my beta readers.

So, what will I be looking for after the initial edit? Well, anything that may be either overused words, clichés and redundancies, sticky sentences, readability, repetitive words or phrases, long sentences, over use of pronouns, sentence transitions, consistency and pace and dialogue… well, I could go on, but I will not bore you.

To be fair, a lot of this will only take (he said, hopefully) a short period of time, but it is something that needs to be taken into account. The idea is to have a manuscript at the end of the day I can hand over to a beta reader who can read it and say, “Wow!”
On that day, I’ll be a happy man.
