FBS Short Take #1: Fake News

A few years back I got an e-mail that was excited about an article the New York Times was going to do on black poetry. I think it was front page. I remember it well, cuz there is this pod cast on my classic i-pod that comes on with Afaa talking about it. It happened a while ago, but it is still in my ears.
Thing is, Folks some scholars were disappointed about the article and the way it cast a rivalry among scholars and didn't accurately describe the world of black poetry.. But it was the New York Times. Folks sorta complained that they got it wrong; but for real/for real was cised if they was mentioned. All things Black was rising then with Black Lives Matter, and Obama and Michelle had already risen. The Trump thing could not have been reasonably predicted then. Truth is some of the spin on the black that white America uses to form their opinion of our radical thoughts, ideas, and culture-is straight up Fake News.
But the intellectuals go for that. I mean sometimes you got black folks who live and work with white folks, send their kids to white schools, have gone to the Ivy League, espousing radical thoughts about what African Americans in the Street should do. Sometimes they be engaging in public anger or words of protest that they don't use with their publishers, employers, or co-workers-no matter the microaggression. Some of that is Fake News.
Activism is a legitimate credential. And especially in these days with all these highly educated folks-so well pedigreed-you can't be chosen unless you have already pledged with the same people you may suggest you are being radical about. The thing is-some of that is false image. But when the network looking for an expert-they gotta have somebody who has the credentials.
My point, Trump gotta point-there is fake news. Folks in the Black be complaining about it all the time. But we ain't really got no media, and truth is-somebody telling a lie on in you in the New York Times-or getting you wrong in the New York Times-might be more advantage than painful. I mean at least some readers know you, even if they get you wrong.
But here's the deal-the Right don't get no advantage-its straight up war-and they have money and their own channels. And yes, they produce fake news, and call fake news. But they don't have to accept what comes down. In maters of the media and given the lack or marginalization of black media-we be accepting fake news as the best we can do.
Last note too-is when you getting good PR, sometimes its cuz you got somebody white in your corner that gets paid with you-who is negotiating that.
It ain't necessarily that folks is getting it right, but that they are protecting their asset. No absolutes, no blanket truth, but there's some truth to this fake news.
