Synopsis (from Goodreads): Shakespeare's classic tale of hubris, paranoia, and betrayal is reimagined against the darkly comedic backdrop of the post-apocalypse. ... And zombies. I ate thy brains ere I killed thee...

Slight disclaimer...Othello itself is a play that I've never read, studied or seen. I have read a retelling of Othello before and so have a vague sense of the story, and as far as I could tell Othello and Zombies was a faithful retelling (well with the addition of Zombies) and even though I did know the end was coming I still wasn't ready for it.

This was definitely an interesting read because of the most followed characters. Iago was probably one of the most followed and yet he was highly unlikable (by design, his Shakespearean counterpart is the same from what I can tell). He had very little to redeem himself with, and his motivation basically seemed to be jealousy though I never quite worked out why. It did work with the storyline though.

I wasn't sure what to make of Othello as a character. All around he seemed to be okay, but he did seem to be buoyed up a bit by his wife, Desdemona. She was an incredibly likable character, which is probably what made the whole story so tragic. But it did work well.

The combination of a Shakespearean tragedy and the zombie apocalypse worked really well. There wasn't any discord between the two elements of the story and they each added to each other. Othello and Zombies was fast paced but character driven, which is one of the reasons I enjoyed this.

This was a really good read, and enjoyable even if you don't know the storyline of Othello very well!
