My name is Avil Beckford, and I started The One Problem podcast interview as a way for us to learn from each other. Guests, come on, and they tackle one problem. Not all the problems in the world. Why should we get overwhelmed? They present a problem, and they have six minutes to provide a solution. Most of my guests so far, I've had a prior relationship with them, and today my guest is Alta Odendaal. She's a financial coach. And I met her about 18 months ago because we took an online course together. Over to you Alta.

Thanks, Avil, to present the one problem that I help clients to solve, and that is to change their Relationship with money. Now, I'm not sure if your guests are aware that they actually have a very conscious and unconscious relationship with money. Now people would say, what is a relationship with money? Well, the key is, we're all wired for survival, and our Financial personality and our wiring in our brain for survival actually depends on how we make financial decisions. What does it really mean? Well, I've worked with clients over the years as a certified financial planner.

I had all the knowledge in the world, but I did not understand my own personality and how I'm wired for survival. So here I am, the logic side of the brain and all the financial knowledge. But the emotional side was actually making the decisions. And the emotional side for me is money means security. So my wiring is really for security. I actually secrete feel good hormones if I save money. But the opposite is also true. We get other clients that actually have feel good hormones when they spend money and normally opposites attract.

So what is the anxiety that's created in your brain for your own survival? If you have to deal with money now, in order to change your relationship with money, you also need to change your relationship of self. What does it mean to change your relationship of self? It means that you actually understand your own limiting beliefs about money, how your brain is wired for scarcity and survival. And how you can actually move to abundance. The reason why we need to move to abundance is because if we're stuck in scarcity mode, we always think in our own limitations.

The One Problem Interview with Alta Odendaal Talking About Your Relationship with Money

Alta Odendaal

We live in an abundant world. But we don't always think that way. We're all different individuals on planet Earth. And I bet you, sometimes you get triggered when something happens around you. Maybe in your close relationships, and you would ask yourself, Why do I get triggered? Well, any triggers that you're facing are unhealed wounds in your subconscious mind. And if you don't heal those unconscious triggers, emotional triggers, you will always stay in emotional debt. I help you move from emotional debt to emotional wealth. But it is a challenging process because what you need to do is you need to face your biggest fears in life. And you need to change your perspective in order to change your relationship with money.

Now all of us got subconscious fears. We all got subconscious beliefs that's driving our money behaviors. I love to work with women and most women are not the financial leaders of their own lives. They leave it to somebody else and then we call them sometimes codependents. And what happens if there is a divorce or anything in a relationship, women for the first time need to take financial leadership of their own lives, and then they become very cross with their husbands. To say, why did they do this to me, where instead they were running with a subconscious belief that they are not the leaders of their financial future.

Alta Odendaal

I encourage, especially women, to take financial leadership from the day they get married. Now you can only do that if you build financial confidence because if you can ask the right questions to your future husband and you can ask the same questions to your future self, you can build financial confidence from day one and take responsibility for your own financial future. That is the one problem that I'm passionate to help women, especially, to solve and especially in marriages. And thanks, Avil for the opportunity. I hope everybody got value from the one problem that they need to solve for themselves and for all their relationships.

Thanks, Avil.

Thank you so much, Alta.
