I’ve been waiting for Nate and Becca to get their HEA since reading the very first book in this series, Rookie Move. Their chemistry ramped up with every new release  and I was beyond happy to see Ms. Bowen had decided to self publish a book just for them. YAY!

I love the friends to lovers trope and it’s done so well in Brooklynaire. I was so focused on their friendship and chemistry that, and I honestly can’t believe this, that I really didn’t consider that any love story with them as the main protagonists would have to tackle the power dynamics between them. After all, Nate is a genius billionaire who happens to be Becca’s boss. And I’ve got to be honest once again when I tell you I don’t normally care for romances with unequal balances of power. I’m talking blatant power imbalances such as coach/athlete, teacher/student and boss/employee. They aren’t tropes I look for or usually really enjoy, but this author handles this subject well and I quite enjoyed Becca and Nate’s romance.

If you are new to this series, Nate is the owner of the Brooklyn Bruisers and a man with a huge brain that earned his billions through his tech company. Rebecca started working for him seven years ago before he became rich and famous, when he was just a geek in an office with a couple of employees and a beat up ping pong table. She is one of his most trusted employees, a good friend, and his secret crush. Becca is quirky and fun and loves her job. This book picks up after she busted her ass walking onto an ice rink and is recovering from a head injury. Readers who have followed this series from the beginning will quickly pick up that this book runs parallel to the last book in the series, Pipe Dreams. 

I think what I loved the most was how wonderful of a friendship Nate and Becca have. How much they enjoy each other’s company and always have. He is delightfully nerdy and Becca is bright and unique and together they make perfect sense. He’s held back from declaring himself for years and Becca put her desire for him in a box and forgot about it. He’s her boss and she’s his loyal employee. Until she hurts herself and takes time off and Nate gets worried and the lines get blurred.

I loved the way Ms. Bowen handled each of them finding their footing in the relationship. I’m glad that Nate let Becca make all the moves and decisions on when to move forward and when to take their time. The progression of them from employer/employee/friends to lovers was very well done and I never felt uncomfortable or that Nate overstepped his bounds. And I love that he understood that he had to do that.

That chemistry I always sensed between them in this series? Well, it explodes onto the page and it is so hot. Once they decide to go all in they really do GO ALL IN. Their relationship is sweet and fun, and wonderfully sexy. I loved this couple together, just like I knew I would. I really, really enjoyed the little epilogue showing them in the future. What a perfect way to end the series. Final grade- B
