Angela’s KU- January 2018 Reads and What’s Up Next

WHAT I READ IN JANUARY:

Fire in His Fury by Ruby Dixon – AMZ

Just like Rapunzel from the fairy tales, dreamy, romantic Amy lives a hidden life. She’s kept locked away in a tower for her own safety, with her sister as protector. Amy knows it’s for her own good. If a dragon catches her scent, she’ll be carried away and forced to become a drakoni’s Mate.

But Amy has a secret – she desperately wants to be stolen. She would love to be rescued from her life of idleness and the thought of a devoted drakoni male charging in and saving her from her boredom sounds perfect to her. Of course, she wants a romantic, loving male who will adore her.

What she gets is Rast.

He’s not kind. Not romantic. Definitely not gentle. But he is utterly and completely obsessed with Amy and he’ll stop at nothing to make the delicate female his

Finally Amy gets her man. Er, I mean dragon. If you’ve followed this series then you know Amy  was introduced in the first Book and has been in hiding for awhile. Her sister and her sister’s mate know that if an unmated dragon latches on to her scent they will stop a nothing to get to her. But, Amy has her own plans and during a brief time outside helping the other drakoni and their mates she leaves her panties by the roadside hoping this will help her prince charming track her down.

What she gets is Rast, who isn’t exactly what she had in mind, but exactly what she needs.

THE VERDICT: Enjoyed and looking forward to what comes next.

Syrin’s Mate by Michele MIlls – AMZ

Alien prison break romance: Forced proximity. Zero privacy. One touch.

Syrin of Forty-Six is a berserker.

Outlawed from Chronos and removed from the Xylan mating database, he’s a fierce warrior with a bloody past. And now he’s a convict, thrown into the most notorious prison in the four sectors.

Since Sara is also an inmate, she can’t exactly judge. And as the only female prisoner on Detention Center: Zeta 149, she really, really needs protection. So when the prison guards throw Sara into a cell with the unstable berserker, placing bets on how long she’ll live, she’s willing to trade her virginity if he’ll agree to become her protector.

But instead of taking her offer, Syrin lays some ground rules: he’ll never be her pleasure mate, never want her, never desire her, ever. But despite his aura of don’t f*cking bother me, Sara can’t keep her eyes off his bulging biceps and the sexy fangs that peek out from his perfect lips. Sharing a cell with a towering, muscular male who IS NOT attracted to her is sheer torture…but then his bare hand accidentally touches hers…

And all hell doesn’t break loose. Instead a Xylan berserker does, and that’s much deadlier…and much sexier…

Author’s note: This is book #4 in the series, but can be read as a standalone. Be prepared to meet new friends and revisit old favorites…

I was kind of excited when I found out this book was set in a prison. Does that make me weird? Huh. Anyway, for some reason I love sci/fi prison planet/prison break romances. Throw in a big, plated, badass alien who doesn’t think love is in the future for him and I’m guaranteed to one-click.

The hero in the fourth book in the Alien Bounty Hunter series is Syrin and he is a berserker of the Xylan race. He’s accepted the fact that because of his berserker ways he will never be able to have a mate or children of his own. The heroine is in jail for something she didn’t do. She and Syrin are thrown in a cell together and Sara decides that he is the perfect person to serve as her protector since he can’t get it up for anyone but his mate.

This romance takes its time, Sara and Syrin don’t form a mate bond right away. It’s not until his protective instincts come roaring to the surface and his berserker breaks free that he and Sara finally connect. After the quick matings of a couple of the previous installments I appreciated that.

THE VERDICT:  This series gets better and better with each new release and I can’t wait to see what the author comes up with next.

Mister McHottie by Pippa Grant – AMZ

Chase
I’ve just bought the woman of my nightmares.
Technically, I bought the company she works for. Point is, she cost me my two best friends ten years ago. It’s payback time, and I’m going to make her life hell.
When I’m not banging her silly and myself stupid.
I need to get my head back in business, because getting off is great, but “He was a man who had sex, and lots of it, and in the worst locations, with the woman of his nightmares” isn’t the inscription I want on my tombstone.
Even if it’s true.

Ambrosia
There are three things I hate:
Bratwurst in any form, my neighbors boinking loudly like farm animals at 3 AM, and Chase Jett.
Mostly I hate Chase Jett. It’s been ten years since he took my virginity—I’d make a bratwurst joke, but the unfortunate truth is that it would have to be a bratbest joke, and yes, it kills me to admit it—and now he’s not only a billionaire, he’s also my new boss.
Turns out our hate is mutual. And this kind of hate is horrifically twisted, filthy, and banging hot.
I just might have to hate him forever.

I saw this book being talked about on twitter and HAD to see what the fuss was about. So glad I did.

This book is funny. And ridiculous. Just ridiculously funny. The hero and heroine have this hate/lust relationship that they’ve been battling practically  their whole lives. Bad things happened during their teenage years that involved a wiener truck, jail, and the heroine not being able to step foot in their hometown since, and she has never been able to forget or forgive.

When the hero buys out the organic grocery store where she works, all hell breaks loose and the two are thrown together in some truly laugh out loud situations.

THE VERDICT: This book made me laugh. A lot. I’m totally invested in seeing he secondary characters get their own HEAs.

Stud in the Stacks by Pippa Grant – AMZ

When it comes to women, I know what they want. And all day long, I give it to them. Dark, broody, and sexy? You got it. Need to laugh? I’m your guy. Desperate for something to put you in the mood? You’ve come to the right place, kitten.

Every morning when my library opens, there’s a line around the block, the ladies flocking to me in need of their next book boyfriend. I’m that dude. The one who knows his way around the romance section. And if you think that hasn’t gotten me plenty of action over the years, you’d be wrong.

But I made a slight miscalculation at work, and now my reputation has my job in danger. If I can’t prove to my boss that I’m more than a playboy who recommends romance in the hopes of getting some hanky panky in the stacks, I’m headed for the unemployment line.

Enter Parker Elliott. She rocks a mean guitar, she has no idea how sexy she is, and she’s in need of a temporary fake boyfriend.

Best of all? She doesn’t have a library card. I couldn’t have found a better fake fiancée if I’d written her myself.

Once I read Mr. McHottie by Pippa Grant I decided to ignore my review schedule and TBR stack and read this instead. HA!

I think I enjoyed Stud in the Stacks even more than the first book. The hero is a romance book loving librarian who has a review blog. ˜swoon˜ The heroine is a successful career woman who has anxiety and is trying to get beyond her high school image and bad decisions.

That’s all I’m going to say because you really should read this for yourselves. It’s exactly as good as it sound.

THE VERDICT: The third book in this series comes out next month and I AM SO EXCITE

WHAT’S UP NEXT:

The Pilot and the Puck-Up by Pippa Grant – AMZ

He’s the biggest, baddest, most spider-fearing motherpucker on the ice…

When you’re named after the king of the gods, the world expects certain things of you.

Tough? Damn right.

Smart? Don’t let the hockey uniform fool you.

Large and in charge? Honey, I’m the biggest, baddest, mother pucking-est machine to ever own the ice. I shoot. I score. In and out of the rink. I don’t come early, but I come often, if you know what I mean. And I always leave the ladies wanting more.

Until that chick last night.

I’m no one-thrust wonder, and you’re damn right I’m going to prove to her I can do better. But every time I think I’m finally on my way back into her pants, she one-ups and out-balls me.

I should cut my losses, lick my wounds, and walk away.

But Zeus Berger doesn’t walk away from anything.

Especially when she’s the only woman in the world who might be able to handle me.

Zeus’s book. I am so excited. I’ve decided I want EVERYONE to get their own books.

Natural Witch by K.F. Breene – AMZ

Something has always been missing from my life. A hole that I could never seem to fill.

When I accidentally turn a coven of witches into nightmares, I find out what that something is.

Magic.

And it turns out, I have a crap load of it.

As a latent power awakens deep inside of me, I’m exposed to one of the most powerful and corrupt organizations in the magical world—the Mages’ Guild.

Barely knowing a spell from a few swear words and luck, I won’t be able to evade them alone.

And that’s when I meet him.

The Rogue Natural. The best and most feared mage in the world.

He’s dangerous, mysterious, and has a vendetta of his own. He is now the only thing between me and magical enslavement.

Spin-0ff to the Fire and Ice series.

Dad Bod by Lily Kate – AMZ

I’m a single mom.
He’s a single dad.
In theory, we should have something in common, right? Wrong.

When I receive a phone call from my daughter’s school, I’m shocked to find my sweet little girl has been in a fight. Hauled to the principal’s office to straighten things out, I find myself sitting next to none other than my first kiss—Tyler Daniels—the man who’d taught me the meaning of trouble.

After living the high life in NYC, Tyler’s back in town to ruin me all over again. This time—the joke’s on him. I’m older and (sometimes) wiser, and after my last failed relationship, I’m in no mood to have my pigtails pulled. Not even when Tyler decides to try that kissing thing all over again.

However, Tyler’s gotten a lot better at that kissing thing, and when one steamy kiss leads to the next, I suddenly find myself thinking about Tyler Daniels and his smoking hot dad bod at the worst of times. Even if his presence in my home town will run my beautiful little inn right out of business.

When push comes to shove, however, Tyler Daniels and I are not cut out to be friends—and I’m not sure we’re ready for more.

2018 is the year I read more romantic comedy and this blurb caught my attention.

Dog with a Bone by Hailey Edwards – AMZ

Half-bloods with Thierry’s skill set are given two options. They can join the conclave’s marshal program, or they can pack their bags. Turn down the job offer, and you’ve just shredded your residency pass for the mortal realm and booked yourself a one-way ticket to Faerie.

Texas is the only home Thierry has ever known, and she’s not going anywhere. Even if it means following in her notorious father’s footsteps as a peacekeeper. But pinning on the badge opens her eyes to the fact sometimes fae need protection too, and that sometimes humans are the real monsters.

While I’m waiting on the next Foundling and Necromancer books to release I’ve decided to dive into Ms. Edwards backlist.
