Located in downtown Atlanta, [email protected] is a poetry program offered through Georgia Tech as the result of the creation of the Margaret T. and Henry C. Bourne, Jr. Chair in Poetry and the H. Bruce McEver Visiting Chair in Writing. Travis Wayne Denton is the McEver Chair in Poetry, and the McEver Chairs in Community Outreach are Katie Chaple, Theresa Davis, and Kodac Harrison. Until very recently, the Bourne Chair was held by Thomas Lux.
In the Atlanta area, [email protected] is known for its large public readings, often providing free copies of poets’ books to early attendees, as well as they’re free community poetry workshops. In the words of Lux: “It will always be our goal to bring poetry to as wide an audience as possible, to recognize poetry for its possibilities in all our lives, and to recognize those involved in the craft of writing poetry—poets as well as spoken word performers, whether accomplished, rising, or beginning—for the artists they are.”
And [email protected] has a wealth of poetry videos on YouTube, here are a few highlights:
- Natasha Trethewey, Part 1 (and here’s Part 2).
- Patricia Smith, Part 1 (and again, Part 2).
- Kurtis Lamkin.
- Allison Joseph.
