Ezra

Ezra (Malayalam): This is the first horror Movie I have seen in Malayalam and it is done well.Jay K's Ezra does have some chilling moments, but more than horror it has a gripping story which has fear, suspense, thrilling moments, romance, and a twist towards the end. The movie is based on the concept called 'dybbuk' from the Jewish mythology. Dybbuk is a box which should be remained locked and shouldn't be opened under any circumstances as it possesses a spirit and this spirit enters the body of the person who opens this box. This box reaches an Antic Shop from the last Jew family in Kochi and the worker in this antic shop becomes its first victim. A young couple shifts from Mumbai to Kochi and makes one of the oldest villas their home. The female lead visits this antic shop and takes this 'dybbuk' box home. The movie has brilliant visuals along with a wonderful back ground score, and good editing. Ezra means 'Cry for help!' and you will hear the cry of the spirit in this heart-wrenching story. Prithviraj has done an outstanding performance. You won't feel that this is Priya Anand's first movie. She stands out equally with Prithviraj. Sujith's performance as a Jewish priest is commendable. It is a good story that has been translated well onto the big screen. Don't miss this one as it is worth your time. My rating is 3.5/5
