Worse yet, London is being terrorized by what would become the most notorious and elusive serial killer in history, Jack the Ripper—and Lady Wellie suspects the prince may be responsible.Veronica and Stoker reluctantly agree to go undercover at Madame Auroreʼs high-class brothel, where a body soon turns up. Secrets are swirling around Veronica and the royal family—and it is up to Veronica and Stoker to find the truth, before it is too late for all of them.

Why Did I Listen To A Murderous Relation by Deanna Raybourn?

I love it when a new book comes out in a series that I LOVE. And friends, I just love Deanna Raybourn’s Veronica Speedwell series. However, as it turns out, I am one book behind and so with the release of An Unexpected Peril, I had to listen to A Murderous Relation to get caught up. A Murderous Relation is fifth in the series and the fourth audiobook from the series that I have listened to. Aside from the first book, I’ve listened to all the others thus far and will continue to pursue this series via audiobook. It is THAT good of a listen.

What’s The Story Here?

It is the Autumn of 1888. Veronica Speedwell and Stoker are enlisted to stop a big scandal. FYI, the scandal is so big that it puts to monarchy at risk. You see, Prince Albert Victor is a visitor to one of the most exclusive private clubs. He foolishly gifts something quite expensive to the proprietress of the club, a Madame Aurore. That gift can be traced back to Prince Albert Victor and put his betrothal at risk. And so, it is up to Veronica and Stoker to retrieve the gift. They do so, but oh no, a murder happens. Actually, multiple murders because at this time there’s a serial killer on the loose – Jack the Ripper. And it turns out that Prince Albert Victor is a suspect and he just might be the titular “A Murderous Relation.” Veronica and Stoker have quite a lot on their plate.

What Did I Think Of A Murderous Relation?

Obviously I loved A Murderous Relation. Each expansion to Deanna Raybourn’s Veronica Speedwell series thrills me. I love the mystery, the history, and the characters. There’s a little bit more of Veronica’s background that we get which I love. I can’t wait to see what we learn in An Unexpected Peril. ALSO!! The relationship between Stoker and Veronica advances exactly perfectly. If you like a slow burn that pays off over several books so you become highly invested, you 100% cannot go wrong with this series.

How’s The Narration?

The audiobooks of the Veronica Speedwell series are all narrated by Angele Masters. A Murderous Relation in particular is 11 hours and 41 minutes unbridged. It is wonderfully narrated. Masters as I have mentioned before reminds me a bit of Katherine Kellgren’s narration style which is the highest compliment I can pay. Be sure to check this series out for consistently good audiobooks.
