A Love for the Mistletoe  by Joy Penny
Series:  A Love for the Pages
Genre(s):  Holiday, Romance, Young Adult
Rating: ★★★★

Synopsis

Set two and a half years before that fateful summer June Eyermann spent at the library, A Love for the Mistletoe is a prequel short story for current fans and new fans alike, telling the story of how June and Sinjin started "sort of" going out in high school.

June, a junior in high school, decides to attend her school's Holiday Dance stag. She figures at the very least, she'll have her favorite books to occupy her. Little does she know that the school's photography club's "Kissing Beneath the Mistletoe" event will make this a dance she'll never forget.

My Thoughts

Before I launch into my review of this book, I need to make a itty bitty confession. . . I'm a book hoarder.  Hard to believe, I know.  But it's true!

I confessed because when I chose this particular book to read, I didn't have a clue as to what genre it was in (young adult).  I get so many books from different places for various reasons that I have a hard time keeping up with which one is in what category.

So when I actually pick out my next book to read, I'm not always 100% sure which genre I may be picking up.

Now to what you all have been waiting for.  My review!

Although this book was not my style due to the genre, I really liked it and thought it was super sweet.  It brought back memories from my younger years and how awkward it can be growing up.  June is such a relatable character, it's hard not to put yourself into her shoes (or at least remember how it was when you were going to school).

I loved that the author used the word sniggered and the books mentioned in the story were ones most high schoolers are required to read.

This is not a book I would reread, however, I wouldn't oppose my daughter reading it (and I'm sure she would read it multiple times).  Also, I think this is a great intro to the A Love For the Pages series.

Have you ever had a guy or girl ask for permission to kiss you?  Ever read Pride and Prejudice?  What about Wuthering Heights?  Do you let people borrow your books?
