Stockholm Writers Festival Competition

I don’t normally publish information on writing events and contests (maybe I should?! What do you think?) but I felt this was just too much of a good opportunity to miss.

The Stockholm Writers Festival is accepting submissions for their inaugural First Pages Prize for the first 5 pages of a longer work of fiction, creative non-fiction or poetry.

Five winners receive a cash prize and partial developmental editing to support the completion of their manuscript. The prize money is awarded in US dollars: $700 for 1st place, $400 for 2nd, and $200 each for 3rd, 4th, and 5th places.

Open worldwide, the competition is for writers who are currently unagented, whether previously published or unpublished. Entries must be unpublished, original and written in English.

The prize’s judge is Adnan Mahmutovic, who runs the MA program in Transnational Creative Writing at Stockholm University and served as judge for the 2017 Neustadt International Prize for Literature. Prizes are supported by The de Groot Foundation.

Regardless of genre, works will be judged on overall craftsmanship and whether the writing works in and of itself. Our judges should be compelled to want to read more.

Entries close March 13, 2018 and winners are announced on April 13, 2018 during the Stockholm Writers Festival. For more information and to enter, visit stockholmwritersfestival.com.
