El Menú del Día
One of my favorite things about Spanish restaurants is el Menu del día, or daily menu. This is a menu that varies day to day like the specials in American restaurants, but unlike American restaurants, you pay around €10 for two courses, a drink, and dessert. It is a great deal for students eating out on a budget.
- Primeros
The first course of a daily menu is usually fairly light. I have seen salad, pasta, and even sea food offered as a first course. This is typically like a traditional appetizer.
- Segundos
The second course is more like the entre of the meal. Typically a type of meat is served and can be anything from lamb to beef to chicken. At some restaurants the second course comes with a side, usually French fried potatoes, but for the most part sides are not offered with the daily menu.
- Postre
After eating both courses you are offered a choice of a dessert or coffee. My go to dessert at restaurants is a scoop of Ice Cream. The ice cream in Spain is so much better than that of the United States. Every time I have ordered it, the ice cream was rich, creamy, and delicious.
If you are looking to save money when eating out in Spain the daily menu is the best option for the low price and high quantity of food served. It is something that everyone who goes to Spain needs to experience.
