It was a coming of age movie, perhaps the only film which addressed the homosexual character with sincerity and dignity. We definitely have to thank Fawad Khan and director Shakun Batra for that. The deft handling of the character made it a clutter breaking film of last year. It is also one of the profitable films of 2016. But would you believe if we tell you Fawad Khan was not the first choice for the film? Yes, Karan Johar revealed that it was Saif Ali Khan who was approached for it which Fawad played later. Karan revealed it on Koffee With Karan’s today’s episode saying that many didn’t know Saif was approached for it. The actor looked deeply regretful for saying no to it. He said it a lot of time. Kangana who was on the couch along with him enquired which role it was, Karan told her it was the Fawad’s role. Although she said she would have loved to see Saif in that role, she loves Fawad too. After saying ‘a mistake’ plenty of times, Saif also informed how Kareena called him a ‘stupid’ for saying no to it. “And with a wife at home saying you have been incredibly stupid Shakun is one of the best directors you will work with, ” Saif informed. Given the fact that Kareena Kapoor Khan had worked with him on Ekk Main Aur Ekk Tu, she knew better. But sadly he didn’t agree to it.
Honestly though, we think Fawad was best suited for the role and can’t really imagine Saif in that role. No offence Saif, but the Pakistani actor was simply splendid!
