And Chevrolet has also joined the bandwagon by introducing the all-new 2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZH2. Colorado has always been a hot favorite among the masses because of its size and reliable engines. But the new Chevy ZH2 is an amazing successor to General Motor’s truck line-up as it will be used by the US army as well. Expected to be in the category of new generation vehicle for US Army, Colorado ZH2 is used for light transportation. As per the reports, Colorado ZH2 will be put to test by the US Army under extreme field conditions to determine the feasibility of hydrogen fuel cell technology on military missions next year. This rugged-off monster is powered by hydrogen fuel cell technology and features an Exportable Power Take-Off (EPTO) unit which charges the vehicle even in the remote areas without electricity infrastructure.
According to Jim Campbell, Vice President of Chevrolet Performance Vehicles and Motorsports, “The ZH2 integrates the strong foundation of the Colorado midsize pickup architecture with GM’s advanced hydrogen fuel cell propulsion technology. It combines the lessons Chevrolet has learned during 3.1 million real-world miles of testing hydrogen fuel cell-powered vehicles.”
The new Chevrolet ZH2 has gotten its looks from civilian Colorado 2015 model. A stretched version of pickup truck chassis with a body that ends up at over 6.5 feet tall and 7 feet wide rides on 37-inch tires and specially modified suspension system. Moreover, the truck is powered with a 94-kW fuel cell powering a 177-hp, 236-lb-ft electric motor. Power generated in the fuel cells is sent through a transfer case to the front and rear axles. On 4.2 kilograms of hydrogen, this fuel cell technology can deliver a top speed of more than 60mph with a range of 140 miles. But whenever there is a need for a refill, then the high-pressure source will take 3-5 minutes. Advanced damper technology, 12 inches of ground clearance, ability to ascend and descent are some of the noteworthy off-road capabilities of this fuel-cell vehicle.
