Illegal Sand Mining happens across India to fuel the needs of a burgeoning real estate sector even as it has a negative impact on the environment.

A seemingly common and most likely insignificant element Sand is more important than most of us know or realise. This is probably why there is little attention to its traction, sourcing and use and its impact on ecology.

While laws are still wanting, there is an urgent need for local municipalities to have strict bylaws to control sand Mining and regular ecological surveys around these areas could stop further mining.
