Today, we will be discussing about NFC. you might have at least heard of this word somewhere on the internet,seen in your phone settings or from your friend. NFC stands for Near Field Communication and is a technology which is used by 1000's of people for transferring & receiving of files,making payments, device pairing etc..NFC works much faster than Bluetooth, wifi direct and as the name suggest the activities gets triggered only when two devices are 5-10cm or less away from each other.

Near Field Communication traces its roots back to radio frequency identifier.Indeed, NFC is actually a subset of RFID(Radio Frequency Identification) with a shorter communication range for security purposes.The technology is based on RFID, first patented 1983 which uses an IOS/IEC standard and was approved in 2003 as an ISO/IEC Standard.In 2004, Nokia,sony, and Philips came together to form the NFC forum. This group is dedicated to promoting the security, ease of use and popularity of Near Field communication. It aims to educate businesses about the technology and upholds standards that allow NFC to operate between different devices.
Those who wish to create NFC compatible devices must meet these standards set forth by the NFC forum. This ensures that any user with any NFC device can use it with any other NFC device or NFC tag.Now it has more than 175 member companies,including banks that issue credit,wireless carriers, and mobile device makers.
HOW NFC WORKS.
As said earlier NFC is based on RFID and works on the principle of exchanging information over radio waves just like wifi and Bluetooth. This NFC connection doesn't rely on wifi,3g or LTE and it drains less power than Bluetooth.This also means that passive devices don't require their own power supply, and can be instead powered by the electromagnetic field produced by an active NFC component when it comes to range. The data transmission frequency across NFC is 13.56 megahertz and data can be sent at either 106,212 or 424 KB/sec which may be enough for transferring images,documents,contacts etc.
It isn't necessary to tap devices in order to trigger some action,bringing devices closer will do the work and this capability of NFC makes it more secure and there are fewer chances of hacking.The NFC forums define three modes of NFC operation
1.PEER-TO-PEER MODE:P2P mode enables two NFC devices to communicate with each other to exchange information & share files.
2.READER/WRITER MODE:This mode enables NFC devices to read information stored on NFC tags and also modify it.
3.EMULATION MODE:This mode enables NFC devices to act more like smart cards,allowing the user to make retail and transit purchases.

You know which technologies people loves most? The one which costs less, saves time, is fast and useful. And NFC comes under that category, with NFC one can transfer files,images,videos,games and much more by just tapping or bringing two devices together or closer. First, you need to enable NFC and android beam on both devices, then all you need to do is go the file you wish to send and tap the devices together! That's right you don't even need to select any "send via" option. This can be also done with an app like FILE BEAM, and that will result in much simpler and faster way of sending and receiving files.

NFC TAGS are small physical "tags" or "stickers" containing NFC chips inside which can be programmed to provide any kind of information when NFC enabled device is bought near these tags or stickers.For example, an NFC tag could be used to trigger sleep mode from your bed, you could place it on a convenient spot and program it(Using one of many NFC read or write apps)to tun off connectivity,sounds and open the alarm app. You can also make the tag revert your phone to normal when you use it next morning.
