How to add a YouTube video easily with all its settings

How to add a Youtube video from your computer is simple.  Just follow our quick instruction and upload your own video with all the setting such as advertising and SEO.  Check out our YouTube channel here for more of our videos about uploading to YouTube.

Uploading your video onto YouTube

So you have a video to upload to YouTube; either one you just made or the videographer or client had sent you.  This video has been edited to perfection and is approved for upload to your YouTube.  Remember you can only upload videos that you own (made) and you can not upload duplicate videos on YouTube.  Also be careful if your videos has any copyright music on it.  It will get marked for copyright infringement by YouTube; but don’t worry there are tools to remove the offending content.

Upload button

You need to sign into your YouTube account (using your google plus account; same as your google account).  If you don’t have one; you need to create a YouTube channel using your gmail account.  On the right top hand side you will find the button Upload.  Click Upload to go to the upload page.

The upload page (above) lets you drop a video straight from your computer or if you click on Select files to upload you will be able to browse your computer to find the video to upload.  Remember to name your video accordingly before uploading; makes the process more user friendly for you.

The privacy drop down under the upload options is Public (general video privacy setting), Unlisted (anyone can see it if you send them the link but it will not be listed on YouTube or your channel), Private (will not appear in any searches and is hidden from the public only people with YouTube accounts and which you share the video will see it), and Scheduled (if you want to determine a later time of publishing).

There are several other ways you can publish on YouTube namely; import from gallery, live stream content, or create videos from Photo slideshow.

YouTube Video basic options when uploading

Once you have selected or dragged a video for upload; your YouTube video will start to upload and then start processing.  The upload and processing depends on file format of the video; my option is that if it is .mp4 then it is fine; the size of the video file and your line speed (for your video upload).  The video will remain in drafts until you publish it.  At this stage the video also will get a unique URL which it will use forever.

While the video is uploading or processing you can start adding all your video information.  The basic information is the Title (the file name determines this but you can rename if here).  Description is any content that you want to appear in the description text below the video; here you can put a lot of text including step by step, comments, what is happening on screen and anything else you might think of.

Then you need to add tags.  Tagging is a form of SEO where you can add terms that help users and YouTube determine the relevance of your content in shares and indexing.  For more reading on SEO and tagging read How to optimise content for SEO in 5 easy ways.

You can also adjust the privacy settings, write a message for the video, share the video automatically onto Google plus and Twitter, and add to a playlist.  You can also create your own thumbnail.  Usually YouTube will give you several options of thumbnails for screen grabs off the video.  These might have motion blur or be irrelevant for your purposes.  So create a thumbnail that you want and upload it here.

YouTube Video more and more settings

So you have done the basic settings.  The three additional tabs  include; Translations, Monetisation and Advanced settings. In Translations you can specify the language of the video and; then you can set a another language and translate the title and description into that language.  If you know that your audience uses more then one language you can start customising the video title and description here.

The next tab is Monetisation.  Here you can add advertising to your videos.  To see more about setting up advertising go to How to monetise your YouTube videos or watch the video here or below.

In the last tab, Advanced settings you will have all your user and video related settings.  You can choose to allow comments, ratings, ownership rights, syndication, captions certification, distribution option, and age restrictions.  Then you can select category for the video, location, language, and contributions (contributors), recording date,  ability to show video statistics, if the video is 3d, or if there are any product endorsements in the video.

When you are happy with all the setting you can click Publish to finish the process and make your video live.
