The Exodus

Moses then gathers together the elders of Egypt. He tells them everything that God has commanded them. Israelites go away and does everything that God commanded them through Moses and Aaron.

At midnight, God passes through Egypt. He strikes down all the firstborns in Egypt; from the palace to the prison. God doesn’t spare even animals.

Pharaoh and the entire country wake up at night. There is a great wailing…there is death in every single home. Pharaoh hurriedly summons Moses and Aaron the same night. He requests them to go away from Egypt and gives them permission to take everything they own. The people too want the Israelites to hurry away. Otherwise, they all will die, they feel.

Thus the Egyptians just drive away the Israelites. They set out with unleavened dough in bowls wrapped in a towel on their shoulders. The people also had asked for clothes and jewelry from the Egyptians as God commanded them. The Egyptians by now start respecting the Israelites and they oblige. This way, the plunder the people of Egypt.

The number of people that set out from Egypt is 600,000. This does not include women and children. A mixed crowd follows them. It is a large retinue with a great number of flocks, herds and other animals.

The dough was not risen because the Israelites were driven out in a rush from Egypt. They prepare cakes for food with unleavened dough.

The Israelites lived in Egypt for 430 years. On the day that period ended, Israelite armies set out from Egypt.
