Five Simple Ways To Get Rid Of Imposter Syndrome

Have you ever felt that you are not following the speaker in a meeting? Or you may be talking to a colleague who appears far superior to you. You may even feel that you are the outsider in a meeting. Within no time, someone will come and find that you are not competent enough to attend it.

This fear of the uncertain terrible thing is called Imposter Syndrome. It affects everyone; the high achievers and perfectionists alike. And it is often the villain that deprives the talented of their deserved fame. Fortunately, you can get rid of it for good. Do the following.

  1. Accept yourself as you are

You feel that you are fake when you consider yourself an important personality. You begin to compare yourself something perfect that never even existed. Get rid of that self-importance and you will fare well.

  1. Give yourself the complement you deserve

A person who is self-critical never sees his own achievements. You may take your colleague to sky-heights. In the meantime, you consider even your greatest achievements as strokes of luck. You forget to give yourself a pat when you climb the career ladder. You make great connections and give credit your co-workers even for that.

Be kind to yourself. Complement yourself when you achieve something great or forge a good connection. Remind yourself of your achievements in times of self-doubt. Doing this will motivate you to move ahead.

  1. Don’t be flattered by outside validation

We feel flattered when our boss Complements us. But that may be the rarest thing you may be getting. In between, you will be craving for some complements from your co-workers or team leader. You begin feeling pathetic. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

Still, it will help you Accept complements with grace. You will learn to stay rooted even when receiving the highest honor.

  1. Raise the bar

You can never fight self-doubt by fueling it. This is an area where millions fail. When in self-doubt, they lower their own expectations about themselves. This leads to lower performance and miserable failure. When in doubt, add pressure to the situation. Try to make it a do-or-die battle.

There are two possibilities. Either you will fall facedown, unable to get up. Or else, you will win against all odds. Even if you fail, the imposter inside you will die down. You were trying to attain something great. If you win, you will have no choice, but to accept a self-complement. You achieved it with all odds against you.

  1. Share your feelings

Share what you feel. When you do it, you will come to know that you are one among millions. This will help you overcome that fear of the uncertain doom.

Finally, strive for your goal even when in doubt. You never know what you can do if you don’t try.
