Pinoy Street Food Adventure

from appetizer to side dishes, from beverage to main course, from desert to fruits enselada, Oh come on, i'm just a child with huge stomach bank. When i took my first isaw when i was grade six, everything change up until the point of walang makakapigil sa akin! isaw + proben + mais con yelo = solve na ako, Burp! Filipino street delicacies is one of the reason why i'm proud to be Pinoy. Pagkain ang bumubuhay sa katawang lupa ko, nagpapakulay sa kaluluwa ko - bahagi sya ng maraming story at adventures, so come and join my gourmet escapade.

Here is my 8 must try Filipino Street Food:

1. Taho, "Tahooooo" Masarap pakingan, di nakakarindi sa gitna ng pagkamulat mo sa umaga. Pag ako nakarinig na nito kumakaripas na ako sa kusina para kumuha ng baso ko at habulin si manong na magtataho - iba yung experience pag kumain ka na ng taho, feeling ko napaka healthy ko buong araw pero tama naman sila; Taho is a Soft Tofu with sugar syrup and tapioca pearl, so basically Taho is rich in minerals and vitamins like protein, carbohydrates, calcium, vitamin B (riboflavin), vitamin B1, B4, zinc, iron, phosphorus and many more. I do have a sweet tooth, i crave for sweets and other sugary spies and everything nice, i love taho because of its sweetness and the same with hot silken tofu mixed with tapioca pearl, mas masarap sya pag mainit pa, yung tipong mapapaso ka sa hawak mong baso. When you hear someone shouting "tahooooo" early as the sun started to poke you, don't hesitate because taho is taho, tapos ang usapan.  

2. Isaw at Iba pang inihaw - from betamax, adidas, hotdog, isaw ng baboy, isaw ng manok, bar-b-que, tenga ng baboy, taba ng baboy, leeg ng manok,, ulo ng manok at marami pang part ng baboy at manok (name it, alam yan ng mga taga sa amin). Hindi mo maiiwasan na mapalingon, pag nagsimula ng gumabi, biglang mausok at feeling mo kukunin ka na ng mga nagkakantahang anghel - sigurado ako dyan may nagiihaw sa katabing bahay nyo, mapapalingon ka sa sakit sa mata ng usok. I really feel like floating in between the air, when walking along the aisle of ihawan sa amin - para kasing angkan ng mga mag iihaw sa city market-place, My experience of eating my very first isaw, i almost like ugh! why do people eat internal organ? but i really jumped out of my bed when i ate my very first isaw, napa - ham-bame (teacher georcelle) ako sa sarap, i tasted the bitterness of the intestine combined with the savory sweet of the sauce. Well, in my experience, you have to know who cooked and clean it, so atleast you have an idea how they come up with very interesting food like isaw. 
  
3. Balut - may konsensya din naman ako pag nakain ng balut or balot? It is a fertilized duck egg, you'll gonna hear it in the middle of the night, someone shouting like taho but with a stronger and rising tone "baluuuut" (parang mali?) minsanan lang talaga ako kumain nyan, maliban sa naawa ako sa mga sisiw, eh hanggang sabaw lang ako (oo ako na ang mahina ang loob) - must try sya kasi, filipino delicacy at remarkable ang taste at texture nya pag kinain mo, kinda weird but it taste so ver good (sorry sim-simi, nadamay yung pinsan mo)

4. Kwek-Kwek at Tuknene, eto yung masarap sa tapat ng school o tutusok ka muna bago umuwi, it's either may mangkok or B-B-Que stick lang yun meron, sasaw saw ka sa suka na merong cucumber at mongo sprout or sa matamis na gravy (gravy ba yun? basta kulay brown) Kwek kwek is a deep fried colored orange batter with whole quailed egg while the tuknene is deep fried colored white batter with pieces of egg, basically tuknene is cheaper and smaller than kwek-kwek. Naalala ko tuloy yung pakulong, iba iba yung kulay ng kwek kwek - di ko alam kung matatawa ako, madidisapoint - di na kasi sya appetizing pag may kulay na blue, violet, black, red (ano to angry bird and the mighty morphine?) Anyway kwek-kwek and tuknene are very famous street foods, anywhere you go - kwek-kwek kiosk is almost everywhere.

5. Fishball, Kikiam at Squid Ball, mga team mates ata ang mga ito. Di sila pwedeng paghihiwalayin sa isang stall - di ko alam kung bakit kailangan nasa isang lugar sila, sino kaya ang unang nagpauso na pwedeng pagsamasamahin sa isang kawali ang mga ito? anyway must try nyo rin mag tusok tusok adventure. Lagi silang kasama ng tuknene at kwek kwek.

6.Sago't Gulaman at Iba pang palamig, Pag alam mong medyo naiinitan na ang lalamunan mo meron dyang buko, sago't gulaman, mais con yelo, saging con yelo, melon, pineapple juice, choco mocha moo, minatamis na bungang kahoy yung balinghoy at ang Filipino's Best halo-halo (o di ba pwede na ba ang promo dizer, kaya bili na!) 

7. Sorbetes, kung gusto mo malamig talaga mag dirty ice cream tayo, di ko alam kung bakit dirty ice cream ang tawag kahit na mukha namang maayos yung sorbetero namin, minsan nga natanong ko kay manong bakit dirty ice cream, alam nya nagsimula daw yun sa alamat ng saging na sumibol sa gitna ng gubat, to cut the long story - di nya alam. 

8. Turon at Banana-Que, one of my favorite - a banana wrapped around in a spring roll wrapper and banana sugary-coated, I loveit especially when my mom deep fried it with cinnamon, i love the smell and especially the taste. Tuwing maghahapon maraming ganito para pang miryenda, hindi ko alam pero nagsasama sama halos lahat ng nasabi ko pag miryenda time - Filipinos really love to eat, not just occasionally but a a matter of routine for us walang makaka awat kung gusto kong kumain haha gutom ako tapos ang usapan.
