We all know how busy the holiday season can get, which is why it’s important to find the chance to sit back and relax among all the chaos. So find a comfy spot, grab a cup of tea, and unwind with one of Hello City Girl’s Book picks for the winter season.
The Girl on the Train
Written by Paula Hawkins
If you’re a fan of Gone Girl (written by Gillian Flynn) then you’ll definitely find something to like in The Girl on the Train. The story begins with Rachel who takes the train every morning to work and always notices a picture perfect couple who lives in one of the house by the tracks. She imagines the beautiful life they share as a way to cope with her own losses, but that all changes when one morning she captures a scene that sends her life into a tail spin. That’s all I’m giving away for now, but if you’re a fan of suspense and mystery this is the book for you. There’s a movie adaptation for the The Girl on the Train as well that is slated for release in 2016.
The Queen of Tearling
Written by Erika Johansen
This book is perfect for those of you who love a little magic in their life. It has all the makings of classic fantasy story, and an awesome heroine to boot. Princess Kelsea has set out to reclaim her throne, but the task is obviously more easily said than done. The Queen of Tearling is only book one of a three part series so be prepared to be kept in suspense! There’s also a movie adaptation in the works with Emma Watson executive producing and starring in the film.
The Girls’ Guide to Hunting and Fishing
Written by Melissa Banks
This book is one of my all-time favourites, and one that you can spend time rereading over the years. The Girls’ Guide to Hunting and Fishing is a book of short stories that profile the life of Jane from her teen years well into her 30’s. The short stories jump through time starting when Jane is only 14 and quickly jumping forward to her twenties there after. We watch as she learns about life, love, death, but contrary to the title not much about hunting and fishing!
We would love to hear what your thought of the books, and if you have any book recommendations let us know!
