Deciem are challenging the way we think about hair care

Known for breaking beauty norms and championing science, The Ordinary Hair Care is set to challenge the way we traditionally think about shampoo, conditioners, and Scalp serums. This science-forward approach focuses on scalp care, creating the foundations to successfully support new and healthy hair growth.

The Ordinary Hair Care offers powerful formulations with minimal ingredients, ideal for all hair types (including coloured hair) and including ingredients that would ordinarily be used in skincare – the epitome of the ‘skinification of hair’ rise!

Deciem offer the scalp first, hair second approach to hair care.

The new hair care range includes the following:

  • The Ordinary Sulphate 4% Cleanser for Hair & Body ($12.80) A gentle daily cleansing formula
  • The Ordinary Behentrimonium Chloride 2% Conditioner ($12.80) A lightweight conditioning formula
  • The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA ($21.80) A lightweight hydrating scalp serum

Before you say anything, yes you did read that correctly – sulphates are included in the new cleansing formula.

Sulphates are essential to remove build-up and are effective cleansing agents that break down and remove dirt and other impurities. This is due to their ability to dissolve the barrier between dirt, oil, and water.

Removing sulphates has become a trend in “clean beauty”, cast as too harsh and not sensitive enough. But instead of removing sulphates – Deciem researched them and reduced them down to their essential levels. Their formulation uses a mild concentration of the surfactant SLES-2, which effectively cleanses the scalp, hair, and body to remove unwanted sebum, dirt, and build-up.

The concentration level of 4% SLES-2 was chosen to effectively cleanse the scalp, hair and body with a gentle approach, while minimizing concerns with potential irritation associated with the use of sulphates. Strong enough to remove build-up & impurities, yet soft enough to hydrate skin & scalp over time.

Colour me intrigued. I’m quite impressed with this addition to Deciem’s catalogue and I’m set to start trialling the products over the next few weeks/months so stay tuned for my review. I’ll no doubt be sharing my first impressions on Instagram, so let the hair fun begin!
