A Day in the Life of Onne Skincare Founders | Carlia Ashton and Shannon Wylie

ONNE is a natural, gluten-free and vegan skincare collection that is the product of eradicating chemicals and introducing natural active ingredients for peak performance in anti-aging and skin renewal. Onne signifies ‘simplicity’ so we go back to basics drawing on perfect properties found in nature and transform them into a delicious mix of simple skincare. ONNE is also officially and proudly cruelty free as approved by PETA, the products are recyclable and they’re Australian made and owned.

Carlia Ashton and Shannon Wylie share a beautiful day in the world of ONNE…

Carlia Ashton, Co Founder ONNE

7am – As the world wakes up, the first fruitful task on our list is to check orders, which have come in overnight through our online store www.onnebeauty.com. ONNE is a delicious mix of skincare, which is a collection of 13 carefully curated products, all of which are available online and at select stores across Australia.

8am – Then it’s time to get ready. Our morning rituals differ slightly…

Carlia: I begin my day with a morning yoga session followed by a banana, cacao, chia and coconut milk juice. Then I get ready. In the shower I always use the body bar because it’s a great all-in-one. I can wash my body and my hair with our gorgeous coconut-infused bar, I leave the clarifying cleanser until last before getting out and moisturising.

Shannon Wylie, Co Founder ONNE

Shannon: For me, my day starts with a black coffee and coconut water – two of ONNE’s key ingredients – followed by a 3 kilometre run. Exercise is such an important part of maintaining great skin. Then it’s time for a shower. My must-have products are the body bar, the clarifying cleanser to wash my face and then every third day the adzuki face scrub. I follow this with the complexion cream and the balancing body balm.

9am – Then as the workday summons, we’re back online emailing, researching, planning and posting our first Social Media image of the day.

11am – Carlia: Mornings are when I package our beautiful products, which have been purchased, into our bespoke black and white boxes. Then I’m off to the post office to send ONNE across Australia and around the world, to wherever our customer is.

1pm – Carlia: At lunchtime, I like to take five minutes to see what conversations are happening online and to also post our second social Media snap of the day. Social media is very important for us because it allows us to connect with people who are likeminded and have an interest in a natural way of living.

2pm – Customer service is a vital part of our business and we continually communicate with our clients. Part of this involves following up on questions we’ve been sent. The other day we received an email from a new customer who said: “I can not speak highly enough about the amazing ONNE products! I have struggled with acne for over eight years and I’ve tried every product on the market; each has failed to help. I have been using ONNE for three months and I’ve noticed the most incredible changes in my skin. The products smell beautiful and I look forward to using them each morning and night. I am so thankful I found this range as it has given me the confidence to leave the house without makeup and to not be self conscious about my skin.”

Our goal, which has become a gift, is the ability to help women, and men, feel beautiful inside and out. From the first day we embarked on our journey until today, we aim to provide all-natural solutions that enhance skin and ensure the body is chemical-free.

2.30pm – Then we check all of our other emails to and from wholesalers, media and digital influencers who want to collaborate. We launched ONNE in December 2015 and already we have a select source of wholesalers within Australia who stock our skincare brand. We’re always looking for new, niche and luxury avenues in which to reach new audiences, as we understand that consumers all have unique ways of sourcing new products. Media and influencers play a large role in this process too.

3pm – Then mid-afternoon we do a website maintenance check to ensure everything is in perfect working order on www.onnebeauty.com.

3.30pm – Carlia: I do two dedicated post office drops per day, to ensure that our customers who have ordered throughout the day, have their package in the post ready for delivery.

4.30pm – This is the most important time of the day for us. We’re able to reconnect, re-strategise and re-establish our daily workflow over a Skype call. Carlia is based in Melbourne, while I’m in Dubai, which is where the idea of ONNE was born. We’re both Australian and essentially, downunder is where our hearts lie, but we met in Dubai and the business has continued to blossom from there.

6.30pm – Shannon: I post the last of our social media snaps for the day, before checking any final emails, which have come in.

8pm – Shannon: Now is the time when I reach out to media and social influencers to connect, conceive ideas and create content on ONNE. Part of creative content includes writing The Eunoia Edit, our blog on ONNE, which is dedicated to our findings on natural vs. chemicals in cosmetics.

10pm – Shannon: The website was our first e-commerce platform and it remains our most important to date, so when our core demographic is sleeping, I’m able to check the functionality of the website, work on new ideas that Carlia and I have brainstormed throughout the week and implement any new functions, which we know will help users experience our online store better.

12am – Shannon: Then I plan the social media communication for the next day. Being cross-continent, we actually end up with a full 17-hour working day, so we’re able to squeeze in what is essentially two 8-hour work days into one.
