National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is one of the most reputed scholarship examinations that are held at national level in India. Till the year 2008, it was seen that almost all the KVPY Fellows were the scholars of NTSE. It was because of the fact that NTSE preparation helped the students to learn the things cleverly following the application based foundation approach.

By the year 2009, it was proven that all the students who were the NTSE scholars have performed awesomely in all medical and engineering entrance exams. NTSE was again shifted to Class X. It was a boom for the students who aspire for competitive learning during their class XI and Class XII. If the students pass off the NTSE examination with good score, he/she is awarded a good amount as a scholarship which is one of the major advantages of NTSE.

The Eligibility Criteria for NTSE 2018

All the students who are studying in class X according to the norms set by NCERT are eligible to give NTSE examination. The students from government and private schools can apply for the NTSE scholarship program. No matter to which state of the country you belong, you can always apply for this examination if you are pursuing class X. The candidates applying for the NTSE examination should have scored minimum 60% marks in the 9th standard. Failing to score at least 60% in class IX, the students will not be allowed to take the examination at any cost.

NTSE Exam Pattern 2018

As told earlier, the NTSE examination has been split to two different phases. NTSE 2018 examination will be having two papers – Scholastic Aptitude Test and Mental Ability Test for both of its stages. Both these exams will be conducted offline. This means that pen and papers mode will be used. The questions asked will be sort of objective type questions. For every correct answer, the student will be awarded with 1mark and there will be no negative marking in Tier-1 examination. In NTSE Tier-2 exam, the deduction of 1/3rd marks will be done for the questions answered incorrectly.

The candidates who will clear the NTSE Tier-I exam will be shortlisted for the Tier-II examination. NTSE Tier-II exam is also divided into Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and Mental Ability Test (MAT). the exam pattern for Tier-II will be very similar to the exam pattern for Tier-I. Only the 1/3rd negative marking will be applicable for every question that is answered incorrectly. Make sure that you attempt maximum number of questions and that too in 135 minutes only.

The final results will be announced by NCERT according to the candidate’s category. After the NTSE results will be announced, the NTSE cut-off will also be announced category-wise.

NTSE Scholarships – A Detailed Look

Under the NTSE scholarship program, nearly 1000 students will be granted the scholarships. The amount given to every student might vary according to their classes. The student pursuing Class XI or class XII will get 1250INR as scholarship amount with the student pursuing UG or PG will get 2000INR, and the student pursuing PHD will get the scholarship according to the UGC norms.
