The Screen Actors Guild Awards 2018 was a great start and delivered a strong message for change towards honesty and diligence throughout the night in Hollywood. The show began with its ritualistic red-carpet rundown with actors reminiscing how they became actors. The celebrities also coolly embraced the M.O for the night of having freewheeling fun with fashion, to the fullest. However, there was a very striking change of tradition at this year’s SAG awards, where only women spoke.
As opposed to the previously blacked out red carpet of the Golden Globe awards, this year’s SAG red carpet was glistening with celebrities and famous stylists, embracing bold colors, patterns, embellishments that made the platform bright and unforgettable. Previously the Golden Globe awards black out was to deliver a statement about sexual harassment at the workplace, as the celebrities tried to draw attention to their Time’s Up legal defense fund.
But the 24th annual SAG that took place last Sunday night at The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California had a subtle twist with the actor Kirsten Bell hosting the show and was accompanied by all-female presenters’ line-up. This further evidence that the #MeToo campaign and the Time’s Up fund will still hold central focus in Hollywood’s cause this year. The night’s gala event kicked off with moving speech delivered by the first-time host Kirsten Bell, who moved audiences with her words. She stated the mood clear for the night saying “We are living in a watershed moment in time and as we march forward with active momentum and open ears, let’s make sure we are leading the charge with empathy and diligence because fear and anger never win the race.”
The mood was lightened with our favorite cast of Veep who delivered the funniest thank you speeches ever on stage. Matt Walsh was on fire with his jokes at when accepting the award for the HBO comedy in the category of Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. However, no award show can ever be complete without a tearful and heart-warming moment that underlines the main spirit of the entertainment and performance arts industry. This year that moment was well-deserved by Rita Moreno, who is one of 12 people to have ever received EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony). She delivered a moving speech to recognize the life and work of amazing Morgan Freeman, with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
The drive for change in media and its messages was further made clear with the cast of This is Us being awarded in the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series category; a show which reflect positivity, love and inclusion. The SAG awards also had a huge assortment of bold statements in fashion with non-black tuxedos, embellishments, flashy jewelry and bold hairstyles. Here are top 5 best dressed men in the SAG awards:
You have to accessorize your classic black tux like a badass when you are being awarded a lifetime achievement award! Freeman showed it best with a pair of aviators and a black cap!
Before he could snag the best actor award he already won the hearts of fashionistas with a midnight blue tuxedo from Hugo Boss and a Bulgari Watch that completed this Bond look.
To add the young in the star-line Joey Keery from Stranger Things pumped up the fashion volumes with his dark slicked-back hair and a black shirt that layered under the classic tux from Saint Laurent adding the cool in school!
Matt had hid details down with his Burberry textured jacket and double pinkie rings that he flashed nonchalantly whenever he adjusted his bow tie.
Dacre had his favorite brands close in his SAG ensemble with Armani dark brown tux, Christian Louboutin shoes, Montblanc cuff links, David Yurman rings and IWC Schaffhausen watch. However, the accessory to finish it cool was his slick moustache.
