By Emmanuel Ajibulu
When Hon Joseph Iranola Akinlaja was elected to represent Ondo East and West Federal Constituency of Ondo State in the House of Representatives, his promise was to offer the people of the area an effective and quality representation, while being accountable to them.
Whilst deeping and redeeming his promises to his constituents in Ondo, various socio-economic empowerment initiatives had been embarked upon by the Honourable member to make life more abundant and meaningful to his people.

Latest in Hon Akinlaja’s kind gesture to his people which could be likened to a Christmas gift is the installation of a new solar powered street lights at Igbindo town, precisely at Ward 6 in Ondo West Local Government.

The contractor in charge of the installation in a chat with some of the residents assured them that the new facility will be fully up for use on Tuesday December 26, 2017.
Similarly, first phase of repair works had been carried out on solar powered street lights previously installed by Hon Joseph Akinlaja at BOLORUNDURO  WARD 3, OBOTO Ward 7,  LOMITOTO all in Ondo East Local Government as well as IWAPELE Ward 7 in Ondo West axis of Hon. Akinlaja’s constituency.

Impressively, the research carried out by Hon Akinlaja and his team clearly showed that solar street lights are independent of the utility grid resulting to lessened operation costs. These means that these are wireless lights and are not connected to electricity provider.

The lights are dependent of the heat energy given off by the sun, storing as much of it throughout the day. Solar street lights require lesser maintenance than conventional street lights.

These have lower chances of overheating. Since solar wires do not have external wires, the risk of accidents is minimized. A lot of times, accidents happen to the personnel who fixes the street light. These can include strangulation or electrocution. Solar street lights are environment-friendly because its panels are solely dependent to the sun hence eliminating carbon footprints contribution.

Some parts of solar street lighting systems can be easily carried to remote areas making these more efficient and handy solutions to lighting problems especially when there is outage of public power supply.

This intervention has greatly received numerous commendations from the people of Ondo communities who are already saying Hon Akinlaja’s intervention is timely and has put them out of acute darkness especially at night and they have equally adjudged his interventions as shining example of democracy dividends.
