A member representing Ondo East and West Federal constituency at the National Assembly, Hon. Joseph Iranola Akinlaja was yesterday honoured with Friends of University of Medical Sciences, (UNIMED) Platinum Award.

The prestigious award was presented to him during the institution’s second Founders Day Ceremony which held on Thursday 7th December, 2017 in recognition of his support and contribution to the reputable University.
While presenting the Award, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Friday Okonofua appreciated the federal parliamentarian for his tremendous contributions to the development of the University both morally and financially to the Friends of UNIMED Trust Fund.
The Guest Lecturer at the 2nd Day Lecture, Aare Afe Babalola appreciated Hon. Akinlaja for supporting the development of education. He called on other well meaning Ondo sons and daughters to emulate him. He said “government alone cannot fund tertiary education and therefore we need more philanthropic gesture like that of Chief Akintade and Hon. Akinlaja to develop our tertiary institutions.
I therefore call on all well-meaning Ondo sons and daughters to ensure the sustenance of UNIMED.”
Hon. Akinlaja remarked that the award will spur him to do more and that he is committed to the development of the University.
Earlier, the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu commissioned the Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences’ building donated by Chief I. F. Akintade.
