According to a statement signed by the SA, Media to Senator Dino Melaye, Gideon Ayodele, Melaye equally stole the show at the prestigious event attended by prominent sons and daughters of Okun land and meant to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Kabba people.
The lawmaker was hailed by supporters and admirers on arrival at the Kabba Township Stadium, venue of the event before he delivered a goodwill message to the admiration of his constituents and guests alike present.
Meanwhile, trouble started when Senator Melaye, who was about leaving the venue on his own volition, was accosted by hired thugs led by the member representing Ajaokuta Local Government Area in the State House of Assembly, Abdullahi Bello.
Apparently, Melaye’s superlative outing had angered them as information filtered in that Governor Yahaya Bello, who was also somewhere in Kabba town – one of the hotels (Golden Grand Royale) owned by the Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mathew Kolawole – but could not come to the venue to face Melaye.
The thugs thereafter threw sachets of water at the convoy of Senator Melaye on his way out of the stadium in order to vent their anger on behalf of Bello, who we learnt came to the venue to save his face after Melaye’s departure.
“The chief of staff to the governor, Edward Onoja, was also seen with another group of thugs at the Senator Melaye’s new Constituency Office, shooting sporadically, apparently with a belief that the cerebral lawmaker was at the building to commission the facility,” it stated.
