The University of Medical Sciences, Ondo, UNIMED, is to pioneer offering courses in Herbal Medicine from next academic session.
The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Friday Okonofua, made the revelation at an interactive session with newsmen in Ondo.
Professor Okonofua said a special and scientific based curriculum would be designed for the Herbal medicine so that people would not take the course for local herbalists’ programme.
The Vice-chancellor who noted that the future of Africa was on herbal drugs, disclosed that the UNIMED would also establish a farm where herbal plants could be generated.
He said the university has also been positioned for the treatment breast Cancer and other forms of life-threatening diseases.
Professor Okonofua who commended the state government’s commitment to the school, adding that UNIMED had enough well-trained and seasoned lecturers to offer both academic and practical training in medical related courses.
