MUA Matte Lipstick Review + Velvet Teddy Dupe

Hey guys! If you've been here a while, you'll know that I'm pretty into my drugstore makeup and when I saw these lipsticks at the MUA counter for a mere £1- I had to have them! For a £1 Lipstick, it's fair to say I had my doubts about these; so... do they get a thumbs up or a thumbs down? It's time to see...

The lipsticks (left to right)...
Fawn Fancy
Totally Nude
Mystic Marsala
As you can see in the swatches, all three shades appear to be quite pigmented (shown in the order from previous image)
I think MUA deserve some brownie points for adding extra lipstick at the bottom!

The Verdict

Packaging

While the packaging may not be my favourite, I don't think it looks too cheap or tacky (considering it's price of £1!) and it's fairly sturdy and travel friendly. Needless to say, I was also very impressed that you could twist the bottom off and find some more lipstick in a small pot. It's not the most practical size,  but it's a nice touch and you could dip a brush in and line your lips first with it.

As for the formula, I'm going to do an individual review for each lipstick as I found that it differed slightly...

Fawn Fancy

To be completely honest, I didn't like this one very much. Although I liked its packaging and the mild scent of vanilla, I wasn't too keen on the formula or shade. Despite looking really pigmented in my first swatch, it took forever to build it up on my lips to see any sort of pigmentation and when I did, it began to look very patchy and uneven. I'm not too keen on the shade as I find it a tad too pale to the point where it washes me out- but then again, that's just a personal shade preference. It's not 100% matte, giving a more satin-like finish but I didn't mind that, especially when it didn't dry out my lips in the meantime!

This one wasn't my favourite and I wouldn't recommend this shade when there are so many other nice shades that probably have a better formula than this lipstick.

Totally Nude

While this one was a bit sheer on the lips and did need some building up, I loved it! From the outside, it reminded me of Velvet Teddy by MAC (a cult favourite, as I'm sure you know) and actually looks quite similar on the lips as well as the swatch. As for the formula, I loved it too (apart from its sheerness)! I found that it was very creamy for a matte lipstick and not drying at all, unlike MAC Matte's. It was very longlasting and while I didn't get a food test, I can tell you that it certainly survives an occasional cup of coffee or water. I'm in love with this dupe that £14.50 cheaper!

Velvet Teddy Left, Totally Nude Right

Mystic Marsala

As with the previous lipstick, this one was a hit for me! I loved the shade itself, a cooler toned red that would be very flattering for many skin tones (especially now in the summer!). The formula was very simillar to Totally Nude, a creamy matte that glides onto your lips but unlike Totally Nude, it doesn't need a lot of building up. It was also longlasting and gave a slightly satin finish. Overall, I think this was my favourite shade as the formula and shade seemed to be spot on. The best part? All of that for £1!

Overall, I was pretty impressed with the £1 wonders of Superdrug. While the shades are hit and miss, I was overall proved wrong in my doubts as to how good these lipsticks would be!
