My February 2023 Simply Earth box has arrived!
Simply Earth is a monthly subscription box that sends you a selection of Essential oils along with recipes for enjoying them. A peek inside!
An info card (printed on the back of one of the recipe cards) revealed February’s theme: “Soap”. It listed this month’s featured oils, along with any included extras. It also provided a few safety tips for each oil/blend.
A note from Katie — recipe formulator & certified aromatherapist — revealed a bit more about this month’s theme.
February’s recipes provided clear instructions for whipping up the following:
- Love in the Air Diffuser Blend
- Love Massage Oil
- Cleansing Sugar Scrub Bar
- Bold Roll-On
- Swirled Heart Soap
- Love Cleansing Shave Soap
A sheet of pre-printed stickers was also included for labeling your creations.
February’s oils included:

Simply Earth Sweet Fennel Essential Oil
Fennel is often compared to licorice or anise, due to its similar taste and aroma. In essential oil form, its common uses include aiding in digestion, supporting women’s wellness, cleansing the skin, balancing food cravings, promoting hormone balance, detoxifying, and more.

Simply Earth Root Ginger Essential Oil
I absolutely LOVE ginger and was very excited to see it included in this month’s essential oil box. While it’s mostly celebrated for its ability to naturally relieve symptoms of nausea and other digestive issues, ginger root has lots of other benefits as well. It’s also great for supporting heart wellness, joint function, respiration, and muscle relaxation. Plus, it smells really good. 😉
Simply Earth Love Essential Oil Blend
The only blend of February’s box, “Love” contains a sensual combination of orange, ylang ylang, bergamot, and amyris essential oils. When creating this blend, Simply Earth chose “the best essential oils for love that were known to help incite romantic feelings and blend well together”. Not surprisingly, it was designed to add a little romance to your life — via the magic of essential oils.
Simply Earth Cardamom Essential Oil
Cardamom essential oil has a “sweet & woody” aroma and offers a variety of health benefits. It’s particularly helpful in promoting stomach wellness, supporting respiration, energizing, supporting joint function, and more.
Shea Butter Melt & Pour Soap
A package of melt & pour shea butter soap was provided to use with three of this month’s recipes. The package contained six 1-inch cubes.
Heart Soap Mold
A red silicone heart-shaped soap mold was also provided to aid in the making of the “Swirled Heart Soap” and “Cleansing Sugar Scrub Bar” recipes. It can also be reused to make your own bath melts, candles, and more.
Fuchsia Mica Powder
A packet of 100% natural fuchsia-colored mica powder was included to give a pretty hue to the “Swirled Heart Soap”. The powder contains absolutely nothing synthetic and was ethically sourced here in the United States. Also, the info card states that the warning on the label was a misprint and that it IS safe for using on the lips. 🙂
Here are the recipes that I’ve made so far:
Love in the Air Diffuser Blend
Supplies needed: Love Essential Oil Blend, Fennel Essential Oil, Ginger Essential Oil, and Cardamom Essential Oil.
As always, this “recipe” was incredibly easy and simply required me to fill my diffuser with water, then add the specified amount drops of each of the essential oils above. Once added, I switched on the diffuser and let the soothing aroma fill the room.
Swirled Heart Soap
Supplies needed: Fennel Essential Oil, Cardamom Essential Oil, Love Essential Oil Blend, Ginger Essential Oil, mica powder, melt & pour soap, soap mold, and rubbing alcohol.
The first step was to add a “pinch” of mica powder to 1/4 tsp rubbing alcohol and stir until combined.
Next, I needed to break off four soap cubes and microwave them in short intervals until fully melted.
Once liquified, I was to add in the specified amount — measured in drops — of essential oils.
I somehow forgot to snap photos of the next couple steps, which had me splitting the liquified soap into 2 separate containers and adding the mica mix to one of them. — This left me with one pink-tinted liquid soap and one un-tinted. I then poured both of them into the silicone heart mold shown below.
I didn’t exactly do the best job of “swirling” the tinted/un-tinted soaps together, but no biggie. Also, the soap hardens VERY quickly — which is why it looks so lumpy.
After allowing the soap to sit overnight, I popped it out of the mold and was pleasantly surprised at how smooth the rest of the “bar” turned out. Sure, it looks more layered than swirly but I don’t mind. 😉 Also, it smells fantastic!
Bold Roll-On
Supplies needed: Love Essential Oil Blend, Cardamom Essential Oil, Ginger Essential Oil, fractionated coconut oil*, and a 10mL Roll-On Bottle*.
*Included in Big Bonus Box.
This easy recipe simply involved placing a specified amount of essential oils drops into the roll-on bottle and filling the rest up with fractionated coconut oil.
Once the bottle is filled, just carefully position the sticker/label and you’re done! So easy!
Cleansing Sugar Scrub Bar
Supplies needed: Cardamom Essential Oil, Ginger Essential Oil, Fennel Essential Oil, Love Essential Oil Blend, melt & pour soap, almond oil*, soap mold, and granulated sugar.
*Included in Big Bonus Box.
This recipe only called for one soap cube, which also needed to be melted.
Once liquified, I added the almond oil, essential oils, and granulated sugar.
I then scooped the mixture into the silicone heart mold and let it harden overnight.
The next day, I simply popped it out and it was ready to use. 🙂
